{"id":4427,"date":"2022-08-26T12:55:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-26T02:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mscw\/?post_type=article&#038;p=4427"},"modified":"2022-08-26T12:55:55","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T02:55:55","slug":"news-from-vet","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mscw\/article\/news-from-vet\/","title":{"rendered":"News from VET"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><b><a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-24-at-2.33.06-pm.png\" data-rel=\"lightcase\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4428\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-24-at-2.33.06-pm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"347\" \/><\/a>Year 11 VET Hospitality Work Placement\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As part of the requirements for VET Hospitality, students have to complete a mandatory 70 hours of industry experience.\u00a0 Over the past couple of weeks, Year 11 Hospitality students have completed their second week of work placement in various Hospitality establishments around the Woolwich, Hunters Hills and Parramatta area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work placement provides opportunities for the students to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">explore first-hand the world of work;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gain job-ready skills and knowledge;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">practice general and industry-specific skills;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">identify career options and pathways; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be inspired about new work opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Year 11 Hospitality student Claudia Walker had the opportunity to complete her second work placement at Peter Gilmore\u2019 s Bennelong Kitchen located in the Sydney Opera House. She recaps her experience below:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4430\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4430\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-24-at-2.44.42-pm.png\" data-rel=\"lightcase\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4430\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-24-at-2.44.42-pm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"357\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Claudia Walker and Head Chef of Bennelong Kitchen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During Week 4 of Term 3, I was blessed with the opportunity to participate in a hospitality work placement at one of Sydney\u2019s most prestigious restaurants, Bennelong Kitchen situated in the Sydney Opera house. The work placement took place from Wednesday to Sunday and I worked a total of 35 hours. Throughout the placement I was involved in activities such as plating entrees, peeling, julienning and brunoise vegetables, organising garnishes, and making salad dressings.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the placement I undertook a variety of activities and my knowledge of the hospitality kitchen and industry has expanded by learning new skills and terminology. The chefs were all so lovely, understanding and friendly. I loved the experience of working in a fast-paced kitchen, especially during service time. The detail and effort that goes into each meal is phenomenal and I may also add that the food looks and tastes fantastic.
