This year, that desert feels particularly vast and the air particularly heavy.

It is difficult to speak of hope while missiles fall and the global economy shutters under the threat of wider conflict. Yet, the Lenten journey does not end in the desert; it moves toward the promise of renewal and resurrection. It reminds us that even in the darkest hours, the work of the peacemaker is more essential than ever.

Eucharist Congress 2028 Launch

In 2028, Australia will host the 54th International Eucharistic Congress, an extraordinary global encounter with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Grant us the grace to receive you reverently, worship you truly and serve you with hearts renewed. By the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen us, so that as you gave yourself to the Father and to us, we too may offer our lives to God and to others. Inspire and help us to serve you in those who are in need, especially the defenceless and homeless, the lonely and lost. Unite us with your sacrifice of the Mass, so that we may truly become what we have received, the Body of Christ. They are an integral part of the Religious Education program and allow students throughout their time at Marist Sisters to build on, extend and deepen the reflection on their emerging self in relationship to their family, their peers and God.

The purpose of the Reflection Day program is to assist students to recognise the importance of their holistic development, to give them further understanding of fullness of life. Activities are designed to open students to their spirit dimension as well as fostering a sense of community and a heightened awareness of their own faith and that of others.

The Year 7 students participated in a range of activities that focused on the theme of community. The students were asked the question: what do you see? This is from the scripture passage John 1: 35-42. Throughout the reflection day, we unpacked what community means to our Year 7 students, with a focus on our Marist Sisters’ Community.

Ms Aislinn Millett, Religious Education Coordinator

This article on College life meets The Archbishop’s Charter for Catholic Schools – Charter #1, #2, #8

Reflection: Seeking Light in the Desert As we journey deeper into the season of Lent, we often speak of it as a desert experience—a time of stripping away the noise to confront the harder truths of our existence.
