THE FEAST OF JEANNE-MARIE CHAVOIN\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\"\"June 30 marked the 166th anniversary of the death of <\/span>Jeanne-Marie Chavoin<\/b>, revered foundress of the Marist Sisters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Born in the village of Coutouvre in central France in 1786 the young Jeanne-Marie followed the call of the Colin brothers at Cerdon to establish the first community of Marist Sisters. Mother St Joseph, as she was known, died in 1858 at Jarnosse, not far from her birthplace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, Foundress of the Marist Sisters, was a woman who lived simply and, like Mary, was attentive to the needs of others. As we recall the anniversary of her\u00a0<\/span>death we pray that like her we might always \u201ctry to live in a great spirit of faith which will lead us to see God in everything\u201d (CMJ 90.3).<\/span><\/p>\n

She is remembered as a courageous, large-hearted and generous woman. Her deep faith in God and love of Mary enabled her to be always ready to render service to those in need.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/i>our foundress, Mother St Joseph.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

We thank you for her parents, Th\u00e9odore and Jeanne, for their love, their courage, their acceptance of responsibility and all they taught Jeanne-Marie.<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>We thank you for our own parents, the families which prepared us for life.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

May Jeanne-Marie Chavoin intercede for us today,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>that we may present a Marian face in our world \u2013<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>a face of compassion, understanding and love,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>a face which accepts people as they are,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>yet encourages them to grow in goodness.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

With them, may we be brought forth to the life of grace.<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span><\/i>We pray this in the name of Jesus your Son.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CAMBODIA IMMERSION – BON VOYAGE<\/b><\/p>\n

Marist Sisters\u2019 College are very fortunate to be sending twelve students and two teachers to Cambodia to experience an immersion in the school holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n

We wish Ms Samantha Ison, Mr Andy d\u2019Archy, Edie Riley, Catherine Davis, Amelie Gomez-Nielwolik, Kayla Staniforth, Bianca Magner, Sophie Scoullar, Georgia Sherry, Audrey Williams, Lucy Mutimer, Elka Byczkov, Samara Naidu and Ellie Pondekas a <\/span>safe trip to Cambodia. A big thank you to Catholic Mission for organising and leading this wonderful immersion. <\/span>May God protect you on the way and bring you back safe and sound; and may his angel accompany you for safety.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

YEAR 11 STUDIES OF RELIGION I – SHABBAT WORKSHOP<\/b><\/p>\n

Currently, our Year 11 Studies of Religion I students are studying Judaism as a Religious Tradition. In this topic, the particular focus is on the ways in which Judaism, as an integrated belief system, provides a distinctive answer to the enduring questions of human existence for its adherents.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, 1st July, Year 11 Studies of Religion I immersed themselves in a Shabbat workshop with Ms. Lili Negrine, who shared her personal testimony on the Jewish practice of Shabbat. The workshop provided students with an opportunity to experience the rich traditions that define this weekly observance. During this session, students explored the significance of the rituals and objects used by herself and her family, and heard a recitation of the Hamotzi and Kiddush prayers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Negrine also generously brought in traditional challah bread from her local bakery and a variety of delicious dips traditionally eaten during Shabbat for the students to enjoy. This allowed students to further deepen their understanding of the cultural and spiritual significance of Shabbat in a tangible way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you to Ms. Lili Negrine for providing our students with this enriching experience and a huge thank you to Ms Samantha Ison for organising the workshop.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
