Stage 4 & 5 End of Year Awards

On Wednesday we gathered to celebrate the dedication, hard work, and success of many of our students. The Stage 4 and 5 End of Year Awards are important events where we acknowledge academic, co-curricular, sporting, performing and debating achievements as well as service contributions.

Throughout this year we have emphasised the importance of consistency, persistence and resilience. We know that great achievements don’t just happen.  They are the direct result of consistent effort, strong study habits, commitment to training, rehearsals and practice, students’ trust in their teachers, coaches and very importantly, in themselves. Our students have shown that success is not just about talent. It’s about discipline, perseverance, and having the courage to challenge yourself and take risks even when it’s difficult.

We know that consistency is the key that unlocks potential. Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.

Gala Day

It was a privilege to experience my first Gala Day this week!

The day highlighted the strong bonds of sisterhood among our students, with collaboration across year groups and spirited competition between houses. Our students have dedicated themselves to rehearsing their routines throughout the term, and their commitment was evident in the quality of the performances. Gala Day 2025 was not only a showcase of talent but also a celebration of team work, cooperation, and the joy of shared achievement. It stands as a testament to the strength of our MSCW community and the pride we take in working together. It really was a “World Stage” with singing, dancing, cheerleading and musical theatre performances from across the globe…

I am already looking forward to next year’s Gala Day!

From The Religious Education Coordinator

From The Religious Education Coordinator

Advent is a season of preparation and reflection. A time to pause and look back on the year that has been and prepare for the year to come.

In this time of reflection it is important to acknowledge the people that you have come across, those you have loved, those you have lost, those that have challenged you and those who have picked you up and carried you when you needed it most.

At the close of 2025,  I thank all of our students and families, our staff, our Parish Priests, Marist Sisters and community for the wonderful support of continuing to build faith formation throughout the year.

In 2026, we will focus on the value of the relationships we form. Our relationship with God and with others. The value of collaboration, the value of leaning on those when you need help, the value of guiding others and the value in reflecting.

I take this opportunity to wish each of you a joyous and peaceful Christmas, filled with the love offered to us in the coming of Christ. May we, individually and collectively, be people who put Jesus at the centre of our actions, who ensure that others are included in our communities, who work for justice and solidarity for all peoples and the earth, and who reflect our blessings and knowledge in the way we work to liberate others from hardship and oppression. May 2026 unite us on all that is good, and may God bless each of you.

World Youth Day 2027 Launch Mass

The launch mass on the 4th of December marked the beginning of the journey towards South Korea in 2027, World Youth Day. It not only identifies the global gathering, but also symbolises the return of the pilgrim cross and icon to Australia, where WYD was last hosted in 2008. This liturgy brought the community together in prayer and mission, reminding young people that they are part of a living tradition that transcends generations and nations. The cross and icon, entrusted to the youth of the world, serve as visible signs of Christ’s presence, connecting past celebrations with the future and inspiring a renewed commitment to witness the Gospel with joy and courage.

  • Amelia Khoury and Ada Pessagno, Year 9 Students

Marist Sony Camp

From 3–5 December, ten of our Year 12 students had the opportunity to volunteer their time at the annual Marist Sony Camp. This overnight program provides three fun-filled days of activities for children aged 10–16 with special needs, while offering their families much-needed respite.

Our students worked alongside peer volunteers from St Joseph’s College and Loreto Normanhurst, building meaningful connections, developing leadership skills and embracing the spirit of service. Highlights of the camp included a colour run, pool activities, a magic show and a special visit from Santa.

We warmly acknowledge and congratulate the following students for their commitment and generosity:

Ulani Parnell , Valeria Cimillio, Alice Jones , Riley Caceres, Lana Brusek, Ellie Pondekas, Eve Annison, Audrey Williams, Sofia Vella and Bridget Butler

community Advent Mass

Fr Steve Drum celebrated the beginning of Advent with staff, parents and students in the chapel. The mass was a wonderful reminder of the period of waiting and preparation.

Advent Liturgy

The Marist Sisters’ College Community celebrated our Advent Liturgy this week. As a community we celebrated the coming of Jesus with a focus on reflection and renewal.

‘Christmas reminds us that even in the messiness of life, something beautiful can be born. Jesus came into a world that wasn’t perfect – but he came anyway. For us. To walk with us.’

We also farewelled our staff who will be leaving us this year:

Melinda Alvarez, Melissa Carson, Jeannie Scevity, Giulia Laurenzi Michelle Johns, Ryan Leonard, Irena Jajcevic, Philip Lamp, Dominique Powe, Alex La Rossa, Brittany Bray, Beatriz Ponte, Randall Magro, Cara Barilla, Haroula Panos and Mark Brooks.

We say ‘thank you’. You have provided expert guidance showing immense patience, generosity of your time and dedication to your students. Travelling alongside us in our secondary school journey, your passion for teaching and commitment has fostered a great sense of support that has inspired us to strive to achieve each day. Accept this gift as a sign of our gratitude for your lasting contribution to Marist Sisters’ College.

May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Stages 4 & 5 Class Groupings in 2026

All classes in Years 8 to 10 next year will significantly change current groupings. These changes have been carefully considered and are designed better to meet the social and emotional needs of our students, ultimately promoting a supportive and enriching learning environment.

Teachers, House Coordinators, and the Inclusive Learning Coordinators have been part of a thorough process reviewing the existing classes and have made recommendations to form classes for 2026, taking into consideration social and emotional factors, alongside academic ones. Student groupings in all classes have been significantly mixed. Forming class groups considering social and emotional factors, will facilitate stronger peer relationships.

Newman Core Classes

In 2026, Newman program students will be placed in Core Classes .1 or .4.

Mixed Ability Core Classes

In 2026, students in mixed-ability classes have been allocated to classes .2, .3, .5 and .6.

I want to note that our Newman classes and Mixed Ability classes are not graded (i.e. .1 is not better than .4, and .2 is not better than .6, and .6 is not the lowest or bottom class). Every class has a range of students achieving across the A-E grade range.

Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2025

This month, four of our Year 10 students – Lila, Lily, Sophia and Ellie, proudly represented MSCW at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) 2025.

ACYF brought together thousands of young people from across Australia to celebrate and deepen their Catholic faith. Our students had the opportunity to connect with peers from other schools, engage in meaningful conversations with Sisters, Nuns, Priests, Bishops and Archbishops and participate in inspiring plenary sessions – with acting, guest speakers, song and dance worship. They also explored the vibrant expo activities, which showcased the diversity and richness of Catholic life.

A highlight of the festival was the pilgrimage walk alongside the World Youth Day Cross, a powerful reminder of unity and shared faith. Through their participation, Lila, Lily, Sophia and Ellie embodied the spirit of MSCW by embracing faith, community and leadership.

We commend them for their enthusiasm and commitment and look forward to seeing how their experiences at ACYF will continue to inspire our school community.

Let’s hear from Sophia S about her experience at ACYF 2025:

On the 29th of November to the 3rd of December, Ms Marshall, Ellie, Lila, Lily and I travelled across states to Melbourne to attend the Australian Catholic Youth festival.

Throughout the 3 days we joined over 6,000 other youth to come together to connect, deepen their relationship with Jesus and feel and be empowered by the faith. We endured long days of walking with Christ throughout the city streets of Melbourne through intimate connections with Christ. One of the highlights was experiencing Mass, Reconciliation, and Adoration in large faith-filled communities, strengthening our relationship with Christ as one.

As well as listening to inspiring speakers and praising the Lord through music and songs, it deepened my love and thankfulness for Christ in renewing me with a sense of hope, especially as this jubilee year of hope for the Catholic Church.

Getting to know so many people was another highlight of my trip, getting to know their stories and connecting with those all across Australia as well as throughout Sydney Catholic schools.

This experience made me very grateful for my faith in my everyday life, that we have a father like Jesus to turn to and give us comfort even in the darkest days of our lives. It has helped me grow in my faith and the love of Jesus and carrying that sense of faith, joy, and community back into our everyday lives at school.

I strongly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to go to Sydney in 2028 to go as it is a life-changing opportunity that you won’t regret!”

Year 9 Commerce

Market Day 21 November 2025

Despite the rain, this year’s Market Day lived up to previous years and was again a major highlight for the school community. Year 9 Commerce students brought energy, creativity, and entrepreneurial flair transforming the hall into a bustling hub of stalls, colour, and excitement.

As part of the Year 9 Commerce course, students spent the last six weeks in preparation for  “Running their own Business” on Market Day.  They each created their own business model where they worked collaboratively to design products, develop marketing strategies, and manage budgets.

From sweet to savoury each stall reflected the unique ideas and personalities of the students behind it. The atmosphere was vibrant, with students enthusiastically engaging with their peers, teachers, and staff, all while putting their business knowledge into practice.

The students raised $3,197.95 that will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation giving students the chance to see how their enterprise can make a real difference beyond the classroom.

Congratulations to Year 9 Commerce on a fantastic Market Day. Their creativity, resilience, and enthusiasm made the event a memorable celebration of learning in action.

From the 2025/26 College Co-Captains

Dear MSCW

As we come to the end of the 2025, we have been reflecting on everything that’s made this year memorable — from the College musical to Conference Champions, social justice initiatives, and the many events that brought us together.

We want to leave you with 3 simple reminders for the holidays — The 3 R’S

  • Reflect: Look back on your achievements, consider what you’ve learned, and set goals for 2026.
  • Relax: After a busy year, take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime.
  • Reconnect: Spend meaningful time with family and friends, strengthening bonds and making memories.

On behalf of the entire Student Leadership Team, thank you for making our first two terms of leadership unforgettable. If this is what we can achieve in two terms…then let’s just say next year is going to be bigger, better, and something to get excited for.

Enjoy the holidays, take care of yourselves, and we will see you all in 2026. Always remember…

With Goodness at Heart, We Unite in Action

Canteen News

Parents and Carers

Please remind your daughters to collect their lunch orders from the Canteen.

If your daughter is going off to early sport on a Thursday, the student should collect their lunch order from the Canteen before they depart for their sporting venue.

Change to Flexischools

Due to the increase of online orders, the cut off time will now be 8:00 am!

Please order as soon as you are able to.

Flexischools is the system for students to order lunch online and to purchase over the counter in the Canteen. If you are new to this system we would encourage you to set up a Flexischools account. (Link: flexischools.com.au). The Canteen is a very busy area at lunchtime, so ordering online is the best option to ensure your daughter’s order is ready at the start of lunch and avoids any delays in purchasing over the counter.

All ID Compass Cards are to be used in the Canteen for picking up lunches and for Flexi Schools over the counter sales.

Please note Friday is always busy with online orders, please order early on Fridays to hopefully minimise issues you may experience. If you do have a problem please contact the Flexischool parent helpline Monday – Friday 7.00 am – Midday on 1300 361 769.

Students please see canteen staff for any assistance.

Calling on volunteers

The MSCW Canteen would love to welcome new and existing parents to help out. Any day and time you can spare or offer would be greatly appreciated by all, especially at recess and lunchtime with the pickup of lunches and service. If you are able to assist, please contact the Canteen via SMS on 0457 593 920.

Calling for Volunteers

Marist Sisters’ College Woolwich is looking for members of the Community who may be willing to volunteer a couple of hours per fortnight to assist with facilitating Christian meditation sessions. The current volunteers will happily train and work with new members of the group. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Narelle Camroux, Executive Assistant to the Principal on 9816 2041.
