Whatever the break looked like, I trust that Year 9 students are feeling ready and recharged for another fabulous term.

We began the term with parent-teacher interviews on Wednesday evening. I hope these conversations were rich and helpful, and that they provided valuable insight into your daughter’s learning. These discussions are important for everyone involved, and I encouraged all Year 9 students to attend where possible. As they begin to move towards their senior years of learning, I will continue to encourage them to take ownership of their progress and to be active participants in any changes or improvements they would like to make.

This will be a focus of our year group meeting times this term, as we explore more effective ways of studying and the deeper level of thinking required of senior learners. Year 9 is an important time to develop these skills. While the early secondary years often focus on building and retaining knowledge, students are now increasingly being asked to apply, analyse and connect information in more sophisticated ways.

This week, we have celebrated NAIDOC Week as a school, as the national celebrations took place during our non-term break in early July. The theme for this year is ’50 Years of Deadly’, which marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week and honours the strength, resilience and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At MLC School, we marked the week with a NAIDOC-themed Chapel and a special NAIDOC Assembly on Friday, where our Indigenous Dance Group performed their own choreographed dance.

Your daughter’s Luminary will be reaching out again early this term to check in. If any new issues or concerns have arisen for your daughter or your family over the break, please let either the Luminary or me know so that we can continue to work collaboratively to support her.

Getaway Program Semester 2

The Getaway Space remains open in SC101 every day during lunch for students to access.

Additionally, during Semester 2, Academic Support will be offered two mornings per week.

Tuesday: 7.30am – 8.10am

Wednesday: 7.30am – 8.10am

Sessions will begin Tuesday 28 July and Wednesday 29 July and run for the remainder of the term.
