\"\"<\/a>Year 10 have settled in well this week after their return from the winter break. We have welcomed three new students this week, helped by their buddies from Abbeythorpe, Prescott and Churunga House. A buddy\u2019s responsibility is very important in a successful transition to a new school. MLC School students are excellent buddies, and they help with a range of things to make life as easy as possible for the new student: helping with lockers, finding classrooms, doing a tour of the school, and providing the kind of information that only other students know about. They also sit with their new student and make sure they make friends and have someone to sit with at recess and lunch. Year 10 are always willing to help, and I never have trouble finding girls who are willing to step up and help their community.<\/p>\n

NAIDOC Week is celebrated in luminary this week with activities devised by our Aboriginal Studies students and lead by the luminary team.<\/p>\n

Next week, Year 10 will be looking at work experience in more detail, learn about Deep Fakes in a CyberSafety presentation by Marianna Carlino<\/strong> (our Director of eLearning) and hear their first presentation by a regular visitor to MLC School in the wellbeing space \u2013 Paul Dillon.<\/strong> Paul is a specialist drug and alcohol researcher and the director of DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research Australia).<\/p>\n

His aim is to present Year 10 with detailed research and data on drugs and alcohol and present scenarios about issues they may face in real life. It is always an insightful and interesting presentation and is very popular with our students.<\/p>\n

The Oxford Royale students returned on the weekend with many stories to share about their time in England, and their teachers and supervisors were so proud of their engagement and involvement in this special programme. In other Year 10 achievements, Zoe Marshall<\/strong> represented Australia in Turkey over the break as the youngest member of the Australian Underwater Hockey Team.<\/p>\n

Chloe Oh<\/strong> (Year 10) has been shortlisted for a global essay prize from the John Locke Institute and the winner will be announced in October in London. You can read her reflection here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
