{"id":45909,"date":"2026-06-12T12:47:51","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/?post_type=article&#038;p=45909"},"modified":"2026-06-12T12:47:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:47:51","slug":"year-10-work-experience-progress-and-next-steps","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/article\/year-10-work-experience-progress-and-next-steps\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 10 Work Experience &#8211; Progress and Next Steps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Work Experience week: Monday 9 to Friday 13 November 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since launch of the work experience program end of Term 1, students have made a strong start in preparing to secure their work experience placements across this term.<\/p>\n<p>So far, students have used Luminary time to complete their <strong>Career Avenues Action Plans, <\/strong>exploring career pathways that align with their interests and strengths by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Researching a range of career options<\/li>\n<li>Reviewing their \u201cfavourites\u201d list and selecting three preferred careers<\/li>\n<li>Completing their Career Avenues worksheet, outlining their choices and reasons<\/li>\n<li>Beginning to explore work experience placement opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As part of this process, students have also been encouraged to access the <strong>Futures and Pathways Intranet<\/strong>, where they can view available opportunities under the <em>Volunteering and Work Experience<\/em> section. Many placements fill quickly, so early applications are strongly recommended. Additional opportunities will continue to be shared throughout the terms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Securing a Work Experience Placement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This early research has allowed students to start focusing on securing a host employer. Students were provided with Luminary time to discuss and work through the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Identifying Potential Host Employers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Students explored 2 to 3 possible workplaces aligned with their career interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Preparing to Make Contact: <\/strong>Students discussed how to professionally approach employers by:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Deciding whether to make contact via email or phone<\/li>\n<li>Drafting a short, professional introduction using provided templates<\/li>\n<li>Preparing to clearly explain their interest in the placement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Making Contact<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are encouraged to begin reaching out to employers this week.<\/li>\n<li>Early contact increases the likelihood of securing a placement and ensures sufficient time to complete required documentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s Next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once a placement is secured, students will need to complete the <strong>Student Placement Record<\/strong> (SPR) and submit it to the school for approval.
