{"id":45804,"date":"2026-06-05T12:25:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T02:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/?post_type=article&#038;p=45804"},"modified":"2026-06-05T12:25:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T02:25:06","slug":"year-10-and-year-11-students-platoon-operations-specialist-2","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/article\/year-10-and-year-11-students-platoon-operations-specialist-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 10 and Year 11 Students \u2013 Platoon Operations Specialist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for students entering Year 11 and Year 12 in 2027 who have not previously been involved in Cadets to join the MLC School Army Cadet Unit as a Platoon Operations Specialist Cadet.<\/p>\n<p>This pathway has been specifically designed to allow senior students to join the program without prior cadet experience and immediately become part of a specialist leadership team within the platoon.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Platoon Operations Specialist Cadet<\/strong> is a specialist student leadership role within the platoon. Cadets in this position receive training in both <strong>Signals<\/strong> and <strong>Medical<\/strong> competencies and work closely with the platoon command team to support the day-to-day operation of the platoon.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the role, cadets assist the Cadet Under Officer (CUO) and Platoon Sergeant (SGT) with platoon operations, training activities, communications, and administration. They also help maintain Signals equipment, provide basic first aid support during activities and exercises, assist with operational preparation and equipment accountability, and contribute to platoon readiness, teamwork, and discipline.<\/p>\n<p>This role provides students with the opportunity to develop leadership and practical skills while working as part of the platoon command team in a supportive and rewarding environment. Senior cadets in this role may also assist in supporting and mentoring junior cadets where appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are looking to challenge themselves and experience something new during their senior years. Students involved in this role will have the opportunity to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Join Cadets without previous experience<\/li>\n<li>Take on a specialist leadership role from the outset<\/li>\n<li>Learn practical communication, teamwork, and first aid skills<\/li>\n<li>Develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and initiative<\/li>\n<li>Work outdoors as part of a close-knit platoon and unit<\/li>\n<li>Contribute directly to platoon operations and activities<\/li>\n<li>Gain meaningful experience working alongside senior cadet leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Australian Army Cadets is a youth development program. It is not part of the Australian Defence Force and is not a recruiting pathway. Instead, the program focuses on personal growth, teamwork, leadership, initiative, and challenge through a range of engaging activities and experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cadets attend weekly Home Training, on Friday afternoons and participate in selected training activities and field exercises throughout the year.
