In the school holidays from 6 April to 18 April, nine Chinese students and three teachers went on the China Tour 2026 – something we’d been looking forward to ever since year 7! The trip was an amazing experience, visiting four cities: Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi’an.

We spent the first two days of our trip in Shanghai! From standing at the top of the second tallest tower in the world, to racing down Nanjing Road towards the gi – normous pop mart (our bank account dwindling), Shanghai was a city full of vibrancy and liveliness.

Unanimously, we all agreed that Beijing was our favourite city. Spending three days here, we got to see a huge glimpse of the rich culture of China – walking down the Great Wall（长城）taking in the incredible mountains, and seeing the beautiful palace and gardens of the Forbidden City (故宫). But what we really appreciated about Beijing was the community: whether it was playing hacky sack and watching all the locals join in and cheer us on or making dumplings with a local family, we truly felt like we were a part of the city.

Our next stop was Chengdu, where we had been really looking forward to seeing pandas for the first time (熊猫很可爱！Pandas are really cute!). We really deepened our understanding of culture here, experiencing the fulfilment of climbing up the steps and seeing the giant buddha, having a Sichuan cooking class and learning to cook 麻婆豆腐 (mapo tofu) and 宫保鸡丁 (kung pao chicken), and buying LOTS of panda plushies!

To round off the trip, we visited Xi’an, historically being the capital to 13 dynasties. As you may have seen on the Vivi screens around the School, we dressed up in 汉服 (traditional Han clothes), having fun taking photos with our friends to capture all the traditions and memories of the trip. Ending the tour with the terracotta warriors was really culturally enriching, and getting to see Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s work, brought what we had learnt over the years to life.

Overall, this trip was an unforgettable experience – learning so much and making so many lasting memories and friendships. From not even knowing some of the students on tour to endlessly talking, laughing, and growing with them, we all loved the experience.

A huge thanks to Ms Wang, Ms Collins, and Ms Robertson for organising the tour, and to our tour guides: Sandra (Shanghai), Victoria (Beijing), Fen (Chengdu), and MJ (overall and Xi’an)!
