{"id":44583,"date":"2026-03-27T11:40:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T00:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/?post_type=article&#038;p=44583"},"modified":"2026-03-27T11:40:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T00:40:13","slug":"head-of-composition-presents-at-the-composing-futures-conference","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/mlc\/article\/head-of-composition-presents-at-the-composing-futures-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Head of Composition Presents at the Composing Futures Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>I was thrilled to be invited to present at this year\u2019s Music Education Conference organised by Independent Schools NSW (ISNSW) entitled <em>Composing Futures: Creativity, Culture and Connection in the Music Classroom<\/em> which took place on Tuesday 24 March.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The lineup included Dr James Humberstone (Sydney Conservatorium of Music, ex MLC School teacher), Amy Richardson (Head of Music, Santa Sabina), and Dr Candace Kruger (Griffith University).<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Throughout the day, we gained crucial insights into the new Depth Study component of the new 7-10 Music Syllabus, as well as Educative Evidence Based Practice recommendations for music classrooms based on fresh research.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>My own presentation centred around practical strategies for composing in the music classroom. I put the attending teachers in their students\u2019 shoes, calling upon them to improvise, sing and compose. They were impressed when I showed them exercises that MLC School music students had successfully tackled.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The day had a brilliant atmosphere and I can\u2019t wait to bring the insights I gained back to MLC School.
