Our Year 12 HSC class were involved with this project as they were learning about volumetric analysis which involves acid-base titrations. The study initially brought together teachers from a number of schools to discuss areas of student misconception and misunderstanding in volumetric analysis and strategies to address these using multiple representations. Mr Harb then observed classes in schools where the strategies were implemented. The strategies included the usual activities associated with this section of the syllabus such as completing acid-base titrations (see photos below), close study of titration curves and chemical equations, as well as additional modelling via simulation and use of molymods. The students summarised their understanding of the volumetric analysis section of work in a peer review poster activity.
