Meet Amy Kirk \u2013 High Potential Learning Leader<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Amy Kirk<\/strong> has been a part of the MLC School Community since 2024, beginning as a classroom teacher then Year Coordinator before taking on the High Potential Learning Leader role in 2026. Prior to teaching at MLC School, Amy was a classroom teacher and Gifted Education Team Leader at Newington College.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amy\u00a0has\u00a0completed her Master of Education (Gifted Education) at\u00a0University\u00a0of\u00a0New\u00a0South\u00a0Wales and\u00a0holds a Bachelor of Education from\u00a0the University of Sydney.\u00a0She is currently working towards her Master of Education Leadership.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beyond immersing herself in the core business of learning with students, Amy\u00a0is\u00a0passionate about building staff capacity in high-potential and gifted education,\u00a0Amy has also\u00a0presented\u00a0at\u00a0the World Gifted Education Conference in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2026 Horizons Program \u2013 Stage 4: Year 7 and Year 8 applications are open<\/span><\/b>\u00a0
\nDuring Term 4 2025, MLC School successfully piloted the Horizons Program with a selected group of Year 7 and Year 8 students. Following the immense success of this pilot, MLC School will expand the program to include Year 5 to Year 9 from Term 1 2026. This initiative is designed to explore intellectually rigorous topics that move beyond the standard curriculum and reflect the depth and inquiry characteristics of university\u2011style learning. Sessions will run weekly and explore a different ‘topic’ each term. It is anticipated that the sessions will be held Wednesday lunchtimes in 2026. <\/span><\/p>\n

Please note teams for external competitions throughout the academic year \u2013 such as da Vinci Decathlon \u2013 will be drawn from Horizons student cohort in the first instance.<\/span>\u00a0

\nGetaway 2026\u00a0now in Junior School and Senior School<\/span><\/b>\u00a0
\nPleasingly, following the success of Getaway during Term 4 2025, this lunch time opportunity will continue to be available every day at lunch time in SC101. Various staff from the Learning Enhancement department are available each day to meet with students who are engaged with the department. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Junior School, this opportunity is available to students as an alternate play space and is open every day and staffed by Junior School Learning Enhancement staff.<\/span><\/p>\n
