MLC School had three teams competing in the event &#8211; teams and coaches were feeling nervous, but quietly confident. For the Grand Final there is a panel of three Adjudicators to decide the winner and topic selection as well. This means teams decide Affirmative or Negative first through a coin toss and then have five minutes to choose a topic they would like most debate from three topics they are offered. Each team gets to veto one topic and rank the other two according to preference.\u00a0 It is a process where teams must make smart choices.<\/p>\n<p>The 7A team:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Abira Sanan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Anaahat Kahlon<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lauren Cheng<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Elsa Liu<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>was affirmative and debated the topic that <em>&#8216;children should support their parents financially in retirement&#8217;<\/em>. Parents will be happy to know they successfully argued the case to help parents and were awarded a unanimous win by the judges.<\/p>\n<p>Our Year 9 team:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Taylor Lu<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ingrid Henderson<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sarah Zhang<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pip McGuire<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bridget Cortis-Jones<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Yolanda Deng<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>have had a very successful season being trained by MLC School Old Girl <strong>Esther Kim<\/strong> (2024) in her first year coaching. Both Esther and the team were proud and happy to be awarded a unanimous win.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Year 10 team:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Yerina Kang<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lindsay Zeng<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rebecca Ho-Bui<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Luella Farah<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Josephine Doan<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>won the Year 9 trophy last year and the Year 8 one in 2023, so no pressure to win again this year! Against an enthusiastic team from Knox Grammar our team stayed cool and focussed in arguing the affirmative case that <em>&#8216;The true crime genre has done more harm than good to society&#8217;<\/em>.
