Newsletter | Term 4, Week 1 2023 - 13 October 2023

From The Acting Principal

A warm welcome back to Term 4. Our Principal Lisa Moloney sends us her greetings from Kenya this week where she is attending the Global Competence Round Square conference as Deputy Chair of Round Square. Along with staff and students from the School, they are there to develop in students the necessary skills and understanding to effect positive change and tackle some of the global challenges that lie ahead.

I had the absolute pleasure of attending the annual Sapphires Chapel Service and Lunch on Tuesday. All MLC School students qualify to become Sapphires in their 51st year post graduation. Attendees included students who began at the school from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s through to the 1970s with our most senior attendee due to celebrate her 93rd birthday in the coming weeks.

Throughout these decades, MLC School maintained its commitment to providing a high standard of education while adapting to societal, cultural, and educational changes. The rich history of MLC School was on display during the luncheon with many stories shared and reminiscing. Collectively, the women in the room had seen the Sydney Opera House built, cheered as Melbourne and Sydney hosted Olympic Games, witnessed the change to decimal currency, experienced war and protests, saw the emergence of environmental protection, had five different Principals, two Headmistresses (Drs Wade and Whitley) and watched 17 Prime Ministers of Australia come and go. Most excitingly, in 1966 some of them witnessed Burwood Westfield opened as the first Westfield shopping centre in Sydney (and there were many fond memories shared of that significant occasion!).

MLC School has a rich history that has evolved over the years. The January 1886 Sydney Morning Herald announcement of the impending opening of the Wesleyan Ladies College, Burwood reported that the school would ‘make provision for those who wish to prepare for University honours’. This was only two years after the legal rights of women at the University of Sydney had been secured. MLC School began with a radical recognition that much more could be expected of girls’ skills and talents during their school education. Almost immediately these girls from Burwood distinguished themselves as university entrants and graduates, commencing MLC School’s enviable tradition of academic excellence.

Over time we’ve seen increased emphasis on empowering young women, fostering leadership skills, and preparing students for a rapidly evolving world. The evolution of MLC School during this time laid the foundation for the progressive and reputable institution it is today, providing quality education to young women in Sydney. How special that our girls are a part of a never-ending chain of students past, present and future. I have been deeply impressed by the amazing contribution that MLC School Old Girls have made and continue to make in the community on every scale.

We sincerely thank the ‘Old Girls’ for their attendance at the function, it was a truly special event. The Facebook album can be viewed by clicking here.

The HSC commenced on Wednesday with the IB final exams starting next Friday. I ams certain that our entire community wishes our Year 12 students all the very best. We know they are well prepared and ready to take on a whole new journey outside of the School.

Travel Opportunities for 2024 Students – From The Deputy Principal

Travel Opportunities for 2024 Students – From The Deputy Principal

Interstate and International travel for school students offers a multitude of invaluable benefits. It can foster cultural awareness and understanding by exposing students to diverse customs, languages, and traditions, promoting open-mindedness and a broader worldview. It can enhance their adaptability and problem-solving skills as they navigate unfamiliar environments and interact with people from different backgrounds. Additionally, students can gain firsthand knowledge of global issues, igniting their interest in international affairs and encouraging a sense of global citizenship. This experience can also improve language proficiency, as students engage in authentic communication. Ultimately, travel can equip students with a unique set of skills and perspectives crucial for success in an interconnected world.

In Year 10 each year all students experience an international immersion as part of the curriculum, travelling to New Zealand.

I am pleased to share the table below highlighting the range of proposed travel opportunities for students in 2024. Please read below for more detailed information.

October is Mental Health Month – From the Deputy Head of Junior School – Wellbeing

October is Mental Health Month – From the Deputy Head of Junior School – Wellbeing

We all have mental health, just like we have physical health.

And, like our physical health, it’s a good idea to look after our mental health.

Good mental health is not about being positive or happy all the time. Instead, good mental health means you can cope with life. You can participate in it. You can live in a way that meets or exceeds your potential.

Junior School is a critical time in a young child’s life to be spreading the word about looking after our mental health. Focusing on improving mental wellbeing early in life can reduce the prevalence of mental illness by a factor of eight. ‘If we work hard during childhood to build skills and strategies and ensure children are feeling connected and safe, we could see eight times fewer people experiencing mental illness later in life ‘(Dr Addie Wootten, CEO Smiling Mind)

Mental Health Month is a chance to promote activities and ideas that can have a positive impact on our daily lives and the lives of others. Research shows that having good mental health has a positive impact on learning, relationships and physical health. It is foundational to our resilience and success in life.

At MLC Junior School we promote positive mental health in our PDH lessons, our Pastoral Care lessons and in our girls enjoying a large array of co-curricular activities in which they can have fun and participate in things they find pleasurable.

We also teach strategies to help the girls deal with times when things are not going quite right, such as breathing, mindfulness, calming techniques.

So, during October, think about what you can do as a family to improve your mental health.

Stay and Play Was a Blast!

Stay and Play Was a Blast!

At the end of last term we organised Stay and Play. Each class from Year 3 to Year 5 ran a stall.

There was food, games and entertainment.

All stalls were very successful and everyone enjoyed themselves.

We enjoyed working with our teachers and classes to organise our stalls. We worked as a team, made posters, organised rosters and made sure our stall preparation was on time.

We would like thank our teachers who helped us a lot to make our stalls successful. We also thank many parents who donated items for our stalls.

Thank you everyone for a very fun Stay and Play.

This term the Junior School has received some new equipment to use at recess and lunch times.

We have some new netballs, basketballs, soccer balls and bouncy balls.

For this term, the Sports Captains and Sports Monitors have organised daily competitions for each year group for when they are using the new equipment on the sports field. This will hopefully encourage more game play and help to improve skills and coordination. Participation points will be taken on a weekly basis. The year group with the highest participation points for the term will receive a refreshing prize at the end of term.

From the Head of Senior School – Mobile Phone Use

From the Head of Senior School – Mobile Phone Use

You may have seen in the news this week that NSW government schools have this week implemented a ‘blanket ban’ on mobile phones in schools, including the handing in of devices at the school gate. It would be remiss of me not to address this in the context of our policy at MLC School regarding mobile phones.

We understand that family communication is such that students may use their phones to contact parents and carers regarding after school commitments and safety; and for senior students, phones can assist in their organisation and learning. We also recognise the part that we play preparing our students to make their unique contributions to society, with responsible use of technology being a paramount piece of this maturation. It is for this reason that we have not followed the blanket ban of phones at school.

Students in Year 7 to Year 9 do not carry mobile phones at school, and these should be in the students’ lockers for the day. In the event that parents and carers need to urgently contact their daughter, a message can be passed on to them by the Studies Office. This will continue until the end of rollover in 2023.

In 2024, Year 7 to Year 10 will continue to leave their phones in their lockers. Year 11 and 12, as recognition of their seniority, are permitted to carry their phones during the day and use them appropriately for learning and organisation.

For all students, mobile phones will be confiscated for misuse. Accountability points will be issued in this case also.

These guidelines are to enable our students to make connections and to interact without distraction. We appreciate the respectful way that our students respond to these guidelines and thank you for your support. In the event that you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Fostering a Culture of Kindness

A sense of connection to school, family and community have been identified as key protective factors contributing to children’s resilience and social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. One of the most protective things we can do for a young person is to help them feel safe, supported and cared for, along with helping them make and positively manage friendships.

The world of peer friendships is complex for young people to navigate. The benefits of positive friendships, feeling connected to others and having a sense of belonging is overwhelmingly powerful. Young people provide great support to each other and offer strength, compassion and attention to each other’s emotions. Our challenge is to empower young women to continue to act with integrity, remain kind, empathic and inclusive in a society often valuing social comparison and social status.

According to Bullying No Way  bullying is defined as a repeated and ongoing, deliberate misuse of power in relationships, through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm.

Bullying behaviour can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening. This can occur in many contexts and forms, such as in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices (cyber bullying). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. It is also important to recognise that isolated incidents and peer conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.

As students transition into adolescence, they become increasingly reliant on and attached to their peers, this also means they are more likely to come into conflict with them. As students are still learning how to effectively engage, communicate and set boundaries, social conflict can sometimes result, leading to high emotional stress for the young person and also for the adults who care for them. It is common for children to seek adult support and guidance on managing friendships, particularly when experiencing difficulty. This provides us with valuable opportunities to guide adolescents towards kindness and managing healthy relationships.

Our young people learn ethical values through listening to, watching and modelling the behaviours of adults they respect. To support our young people in negotiating these relationships and fostering kindness and empathy there are actions we can all take:

  • Model empathy and kindness. Demonstrate to young people how to show understanding, compassion and kindness towards others. Look for opportunities to model and encourage positive ways to talk positively of others and praise rather than bring others down. ‘No gossip’ rules support in understanding the difference between sharing of information (information is true, and not used to hurt, shame or exclude others) versus gossiping (information that is not truthful or is designed to hurt, shame or exclude others).
  • Understand and do not confuse conflict with bullying. When our young people are struggling socially, it’s easy to conclude they have been bullied. Whilst this could be the case and we would always encourage appropriate adult intervention and support, the term bullying is, as above, reserved for repeated, one-way aggression against someone who cannot defend themselves effectively. Help young people identify the difference between ‘Friendship Fires’ (normal conflicts between friends) and Mean-on-Purpose behaviour as noted by U R Strong. By making this distinction and establishing a common language, we can better support our young people towards healthy peer relationships.

Creating a culture of kindness, care and compassion is central to MLC School’s vision to educate and inspire young women to be fearless thinkers with moral courage and compassion, to be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others. At MLC School, Luminaries and teachers often engage in discussions with students regarding caring for others, looking after friends, healthy friendships and key support skills.

RRAMBAŊGI ŊILIMURRU MARŊGITHIRRI (Together we learn)

Over the break I had the very great privilege of joining 33 students and three staff on a week long immersion in north east Arnhem Land to learn about Yolngu culture. The experience of being welcomed not only onto country but onto the homelands of families is one that has left its mark on us all. We found ourselves embraced by the warmth and kindness of a community who willingly shared with us their culture, the oldest living continuous culture on the planet. It was in many ways a humbling experience as we discovered just how much we don’t know about our country, it’s traditional owners and our shared history.

Our trip was made possible by the incredible team at Culture College Arnhem Land Aboriginal Corporation, a not-for-profit indigenous corporation and charity. Their vision is to weave Yolŋu and Näpaki (non-Indigenous) together to create balance and instigate change in the story of education.

“The essence of contact with Country is missing from education – Culture College allows Yolŋu to learn knowledge while working and walking country, then looking out to Balanda who will be learning from us…Yolŋu the wind in the sails behind Balanda the vessel going back home from this learning experience.”

Marcus Mungul Lacey – Culture College Director

Our immersion commenced with a welcome to country and a healing workshop with Elders at Gulkula. This was the moment where our girls truly leaned into why they were here and opened themselves up to the experience.  During our time with the community, we visited the Yirrkala Art Centre where we were introduced to Dhuwa and Yirritja the two moiety that maintain balance, harmony, and good health for all of creation. We also learned about the role the Uniting Church has played in this community before journeying to Macassan Beach to learn the history of this community’s connection with the Makassan traders of Sulawesi.

On our second night at Gulkula we watched the movie LUKU NGARRA: The law of the Land. In this film the Rev Dr Djiniyini Gondarra asks non-indigenous Australians to consider stepping out of their own dominant ideology, to see the wisdom, complexity, and importance of the Yolngu world. As balanda (a white person) some of the history presented was challenging but also such an important narrative at this time in our country.

The next four days were spent on the Bukudal homeland. Three hours over red dirt roads in a 4WD to emerge at the most pristine of beaches. Sadly, swimming was off the agenda due to the presence of the local wildlife but plenty of fun was to be had playing beach volleyball, sitting around the campfire, fishing, collecting oysters fresh from the rocks and walking on the beach.

Mornings were spent in our classroom learning Yolngu Matha, the language spoken by the people, developing our understanding of Yolngu kinship, and learning about women’s business. Afternoons were an opportunity to take part in painting and jewellery making workshops and spend time with the family. Our sincere thanks to Charmaine, Randy, Ruth and Marcia for all they taught us.

Our Culture College mentors, Emi, Alana, Ben and KZ were part of what made this experience so special in the way they interacted with the girls and helped them navigate their introduction to Yolngu culture, all the while keeping us safe and managing the logistics of caring for over 40 people in a remote location. They were a joy to work with.

Mention must be made of the wonderful Bron who was our caterer extraordinaire. Home cooked meals and a constant esky full of snacks was just the start. Tunes in the kitchen with Bron quickly become part of the routine and girls were quick to volunteer to be in the vehicle she was driving. The was consensus from all that this was the best camp food ever.

Our experience concluded with a final walk on the beach at Nhulunbuy and a campfire. A fitting place to reflect on our week.  As with any group of this size the special moments and deep learnings vary from person to person. For some it was the time to truly disconnect and find a space where it was ok to not be busy, for others it was the chance to experience a way of life that they will likely never encounter in their everyday lives. For me it was this, prior to this immersion I have read lots about the concept of connection to country and why land is such an important part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. I understood it as a concept. Having spent the week with the family at Bukudal I now understand so much more about this deep connection to place, this concept that while intangible, is so strong. In short, I get it now. I consider it a privilege to have been welcomed on country where culture is so still strong.

If your daughter is interested in taking part in the 2024 Arnhem Land Immersion, please join us at for the information evening on Wednesday 1 November 2023 6pm Level 1 Senior Centre.

An Update from Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

An Update from Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

It’s been great to see PDHPE students back in lessons this week. After three weeks away from classroom, practical classes, in particular are providing students with the opportunity to take a break from their theory work, re-establish connections in a fun environment and contribute to their overall wellbeing.

A reminder that students are required to wear an MLC School hat to practical classes as well as the MLC School PE uniform.

As the weather gets warmer, and the UV index rises, it is vital that students protect their faces. Sun cream is also available, and students can bring their own if needed. We’ll be providing a snapshot of each Year group’s lessons over the next eight weeks so please keep an eye out for the activities to come in Term 4.

Many thanks.

Year 8

Year 8

Welcome back Year 8 families! It was a joy to see the Year 8 girls on Tuesday morning as we began our Term with a Year Meeting, followed by time with their Luminaries. We discussed lots of exciting things that are coming up for Year 8, including Student Representative Council nominations, Middle Years Leadership, Cadets, Adventure Camp and Rollover! I encourage you to speak to your child about what they are looking forward to taking on in Year 9.

Just a few reminders and updates:

  • Electives and Book Lists – please ensure books have been ordered for the start of Year 9. Unless students have had a specific discussion with Dr Paul Batten, you can assume their chosen electives are going ahead, and you can purchase anything necessary for those subjects.
  • Adventure Camp – please ensure you have completed all the forms for the upcoming camp. Click here to see original email with links, sent last term. There are consent and medical forms you are required to complete on the Lands Edge portal. Additionally, there is a permission form on the MLC Parent Portal. Parents must complete both forms in both locations by Monday 16 October 2023. Camp is a compulsory event and whilst there are various and challenging aspects for students, it is such a great life experience

Have a great weekend, and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Year 9

Year 9

Welcome (to those families who have recently joined MLC School) and welcome back to Term 4!

I trust that you all were able to enjoy some rest and rejuvenation with your families and friends over the past few weeks. I know I say it each term, but it was particularly exciting to welcome all of Year 9 back to school this term and to see them all proudly, neatly and happily wearing their Senior uniform. It made me feel very gratified indeed to see the wonderful young people this cohort are growing into. Term 4 is often one with a sprinkle of chaos amongst a whole cake full of fun, so let’s do this!

Below you will find a few updates and dates for the diary for the coming weeks:

This term our Luminary sessions, an important time for the cohort, will be focused on the value of Growth. This focus will allow students to reflect on their development across the year and to look ahead to what opportunities for further academic, social, and personal growth lay ahead. The MLC School Learning Disposition of self-awareness will also be in focus as the cohort begin to respond to increased autonomy and independence.

This week we welcomed Renee Willemsen to the Year 9 Luminary team. Renee will be continuing her role as a Leawarra Luminary after her hard work and wonderful support of Year 12, 2023. Welcome Renee!

Specific information that is relevant for Year 10 parents and students is on the Parent Portal in the My MLC School website.

Learning and Assessment

Term 4 affords our students the opportunity for the consolidation of learning in building from feedback from teachers across areas of strengths and areas for growth. Students are encouraged to work independently and with their luminaries in developing their academic goals for the term ahead to ensure they capitalise on the feedback they have received from last term’s assessments and learning. Final academic reports for Year 10 will be issued and opportunities are available to communicate with teachers about your daughter’s progress and preparation for Year 11 in Week 5.

Pastoral Care/Luminary Period

This term, our Luminary period remains key to providing support and care for students and an opportunity to strengthen connections with their Luminaries and peers. To support student wellbeing, this term we will be exploring the school value of Compassion. By compassion we mean compassion for oneself and the importance of self-care, as well as compassion for others – in our year group, school and community. Our students will engage in a range of wellbeing sessions designed to support the development of students’ VALUE skills, attitudes, and competencies in their social and emotional learning.  As always, our hope is that our cohort will continue to grow in strength together, developing a richer understanding of the School Values. Each term, in our Pastoral Care sessions, we will focus on developing our understanding of a different School value. We encourage you to continue the conversation at home, as your daughters navigate the joys and challenges that they will continue to face this year.

Year 11

Year 11

It’s been a delight to have the students back on campus and the cohort set the tone on Tuesday morning, joyfully welcoming the rest of the School as part of their gate duty. They seem to have carried that spirit into the rest of the week, and it’s felt like a positive start all round.

The students did seem a little surprised when I spoke to them on Tuesday to stress that this term is very important in laying foundations for next year. Whilst there may not be an exam block, there is a lot of work to do to ensure they are regularly consolidating their subject knowledge and refining their skills. All students should be seeking out their teachers to ask specific questions about how they can improve. The Semester 2 reports will be published soon, prior to the Parent Teacher interviews on Wednesday 25 October 2023. It’s useful if your daughter has identified specific areas to focus on prior to the interviews to ensure a fruitful discussion in the limited time that we have.

We have also turned our focus to the Year group retreat, which takes place from Monday 30 October to Thursday 2 November 2023. Communications went out about this at the end of last term, click here to view the email. Can all parents please complete the medical information on the Southbound website as soon as possible please. The closing date for this is Tuesday 17 October 2023 and details on how to do this can be found here.

In Wednesday’s assembly, we celebrated the new Sports Sub-Captains who will work with Sports Captain Lizzy Bieri in the coming year. As 2024 is an Olympic year it promises to be an exciting year for the team. Congratulations to:

This two hour event will begin with you hearing from current pioneers in STEM as they detail how mathematics has shaped their careers. After which, there will be a networking Q&A so you can receive tailored advice and build connections with your future peers and potential colleagues.

Not sure which level of maths is needed for your chosen degree? Or do you have a major you want to take, but no idea what sort of career it could lead to? This is your chance to have all your questions answered!

From The Careers Department – Work Experience

Work Experience gives you a chance to try out a career you’ve been considering before you tie yourself in. You’ll get opportunities to try skills, tour the workplace, and see what the job is really about. Rule out roles that won’t suit your talents or lifestyle, and you’ll also be able to meet and speak with other people working in potential roles you could fill.

Without Work Experience, you will need to rely on the accounts of others or what you think the job will be like. There’s nothing like seeing it for yourself, so before you embark on further study or choose subjects make sure you know what the job could really be like.

Click here for the Work-Experience-Guide-2023 which can help you get started finding a placement.

Please contact jcilia1@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au for documentation required to formalise your holiday work experience to insure you are covered by MLC School’s work placement insurance cover.

5 work experience ideas for students who love travel

If you’re a high school student with a burning passion for exploration and adventure, you might be looking for work experience tailored to your love for travel. From behind-the-scenes glimpses of the tourism industry to hands-on conservation efforts in breathtaking natural landscapes, there’s lots of options to consider. Here are five ideas for work experience for students who love travel.

Find experience in a tourism office

If you’re drawn to exploring new destinations, consider reaching out to your local tourism office. As part of your work experience, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how a city or region markets itself to visitors. You might help create brochures, update websites, or even plan events. This experience can provide valuable insights into the tourism industry.

Become a travel blogger

Do you enjoy documenting your adventures and sharing them with others? Consider a work experience where you can shadow a travel blogger or vlogger, or even give it a try for yourself. Learn how to create engaging content, manage social media, and collaborate with brands. This opportunity can give you a taste of what it’s like to turn your passion for travel into a career.

A placement in hospitality and event planning

If you’re intrigued by the logistics of the travel industry, consider a placement in hospitality or event planning. This could be at a hotel, resort, or even a local events company. You’ll gain first-hand experience in guest services, event coordination, and the overall operation of a hospitality establishment.

Participate in a cultural exchange program

Immerse yourself in a different culture by participating in a cultural exchange program. These programs often offer work placements in various fields, such as education, agriculture, or community development. Not only will you get to travel, but you’ll also have the chance to make a positive impact on the community you’re visiting.

Work in parks or conservation

For nature enthusiasts, consider work experience with a national park or conservation organisation. You’ll have the opportunity to work on projects related to environmental conservation, wildlife protection, and education. This experience allows you to combine your love for travel with a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Remember, work experience is about learning and gaining valuable skills, so don’t be discouraged if it’s unpaid. The knowledge and insights you’ll acquire are invaluable. And who knows, this could be the first step towards turning your passion for travel into a fulfilling career.

You can read more blogs about work experience and search placements on the website here.

Congratulations to Tascha Ireland (Year 10) who competed in the Australian Club Volleyball Championships in Bendigo over three days in late September.  She played in a Women’s Division 2 team and was their youngest player.  It was a great experience as she absorbed a wealth of skills and knowledge. It was also challenging as it was the first time Tascha had played 5 set volleyball, which is a different format to the schools-based competitions.

Tascha and her team played strongly and finished with a silver medal! Well done!

Important Sports Notices – Absences and Wet Weather

The Sports Department is located in the Aquatic Centre on the pool deck level and is open from 7am–5pm Monday to Friday should you wish to speak to a staff member.

Remember!

Please make sure you regularly read the Sports Update each week, follow our Facebook page and check your emails. These forms of communication will give you upcoming sports dates, the weekly fixtures, student achievements and other important information relating to carnivals, grading, etc.

Important Procedures for Sport Absences from Sport

What to do when you are not able to make training or a game

On the rare occasions that it may be necessary for a player to miss training or a competition, please follow these instructions.

  • If the inability to attend is known in advance – a written explanation (email) from the player’s parent/guardian is to be given to the coach and sports department in advance. This notice should be given as early as possible.
  • If the player is absent from school on the day of training or on competition day – the player’s parent/guardian is asked to advise the coach and sports department of their child’s absence from training or the game.
  • Do not ask your friends or team mates to give your coach the message
  • Do give as much notice as possible
  • If there is a clash with another sport or school event, please speak with the Sports Department to determine which game/event you should attend.

Please Note: Continued failure to attend training or competitions without a timely written explanation is unacceptable and may jeopardise the player’s continued involvement in sport.

A member of the Sports Department will contact parents/guardians of students whose non-attendance at training or games is not notified in the correct manner.

Students are required to attend 90% of all sessions involved with their sport (training and matches).

If Frensham is in your Saturday sport fixtures, your attendance at Frensham is compulsory to be awarded your pocket.

Wet Weather

What do I do if it is Wet Weather?
While on most occasions we would not cancel training for wet weather, cancellations may occur if rain is too heavy to train in or weather conditions deem it unsafe. Additionally, due to safe distancing measures and government guidelines, we may be required to cancel training when we cannot accommodate students safely in an indoor space.

For morning training

The decision to cancel any morning training sessions will be made by 8pm the night before training.

Wet weather cancellations will be posted on the MLC School Sport Facebook page, followed by an email.

No Facebook post, or email means that activities will still go ahead.

For after school training

The decision to cancel any after school training sessions will be made by 1pm on the day of training.

Wet weather cancellations will be posted on the MLC School Sport Facebook page, followed by an email.

On Saturdays

If you are playing an IPSHA Sport, please use this link to take you to the IPSHA Wet Weather site.

Once on the site, select your venue and there will be a notification if your venue is closed. IPSHA normally make a decision by 7am.

If you are playing an IGSA Sport, visit https://igsasport.spawtz.com/. The IGSA website will let you know if your venue is closed or open.

When possible, we will also post the cancellations on our Sport Facebook page.

On all occasions, it is the individuals’ responsibility to check the wet weather information. The Sports Department, coaches and managers are not always in a position to relay any game cancellations.

Success for Speech and Drama Studio’s Junior Theatresports Team

Junior Theatresports Team Places 3rd

On Monday evening in the first week of the holidays, Theatresports coach Crystal Warner and I attended an inter schools Theatresports competition hosted by PLC Pymble. We were highly entertained by eight talented teams from various schools who provided the audience with an evening full of weird and whacky characters, crazy scenarios and plenty of laugh out loud moments. I was so impressed with how the teams cheered and supported each other .

We are so excited to announce that MLC School’s Junior Theatresports team placed 3rd out of the eight teams. A huge congratulations to the following Year 7 students for representing MLC School so well.

  • Emma Gormly
  • Megan Kuit
  • Niamh Tulloch
  • Mara Nichols
  • Celeste Ong

Another Junior Theatresports team will be competing in the Impro Australia’s Theatresports Challenge at Tara School in Week 3 (starting Monday 23 October 2023).

Beauty and The Beast – Holiday Production Fun!

Congratulations to the amazing cast and crew of our September Holiday production, Beauty and the Beast who joined us for a fabulous five days of fun during the holidays. After auditioning and casting roles, the students embarked on a magical journey into the world of theatre. They rehearsed scenes and learnt lots of dances, added costumes, set and lighting bringing it all together for the big performance on Friday afternoon for family and friends. Our amazing cast performed brilliantly, and the show was a hit!

The productions are a wonderful opportunity for students to have fun with their friends and meet new ones from all year groups. We see an enormous amount of confidence develop over the production week and it is a wonderful, and for some the first time, they have performed on stage in front of an audience.

We look forward to our December Holiday production

Friday 8 to Wednesday 13 December 2023 (four days excluding weekend)

Enrolments will open in Week 5 (starting Monday 6 November 2023).
