State Writing Award

Congratulations to Junior School Captain Marina Chen (Year 5), who has been awarded the Stage 3 Gold Award in the 2026 WriteOn competition.

This is a significant achievement in a state-wide competition conducted by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Marina was presented with her award this week at the State Library of NSW, with her parents and our Deputy Head of Junior School – Wellbeing, Joanne Sharpe, in attendance. Congratulations, Marina!

Public Speaking Competition Year 3 to Year 5

MLC School has a strong reputation for producing outstanding public speakers and debaters. This was certainly on display during this week’s Junior School campus assembly, as students from Year 3 to Year 5 participated in the annual public speaking competition. The Senior School judges were highly impressed by the standard of the speeches.

My congratulations to all the girls who participated in the public speaking knockout competition, and particular accolades to our finalists who will be announced next Thursday at our Awards Assembly.

Kindergarten to Year 2 Concert

Today we held our annual Kindergarten to Year 2 concert, ‘MLC School: A Birthday Celebration’. The girls, with assistance from our concert director, wrote their own musical in honour of our 140th anniversary this year. Our thanks go to our Junior School Music Coordinator, Sophie Grattan-Smith; Music Teacher, Megan Ling; Concert Director Murray; accompanist Jono; and all other staff involved. Stay and Play Reminder

Parents are welcome to attend, and Pre-Kindergarten students may also attend with their parent or carer. Junior School ‘Stay & Play’ Information

Friday 18 September 2026 1.30pm to 2.50pm. School will conclude at the normal finish time.

Each year, on the last day of Term 3, the Junior School Student Council (JSSC) hosts Stay & Play, an event run by the students, for the students! Year 3 to Year 5 host stalls selling a variety of food, goods and fun activities to raise money to go towards purchasing equipment and resources for the students. This year we have already purchased wet weather games/activity boxes for each class and play/sport equipment for lunchtimes.

Where is Stay & Play?

Stay & Play will take place at various locations around the Junior School Campus.

Who attends Stay & Play?

Pre Kindergarten students are welcome to attend but MUST be accompanied by a parent or carer. If your daughter is at school on Friday 18 September 2026, please come to Reception at 1.30pm to collect your daughter. If your daughter does not attend school on Friday but you would like to attend Stay & Play, please arrive at 1.30pm and enter via the Red Carpet.
Kindergarten to Year 5 students.
Parents and carers of students in Kindergarten to Year 5 are most welcome to attend, please enter via the Red Carpet. You may take your daughter home early after seeing your daughter’s class teacher.

What can the girls purchase at Stay & Play?

There will be a variety of food and goods to purchase and activities to join.

What is the cost?

Most items and activities are between $2 and $8. This year cards with 10 x squares, with a square worth $1, will be used and must be pre-purchased – cash will not be accepted at the stalls. This is more environmentally friendly. What should my daughter wear? Students are permitted to wear their MLC School sports uniform so they are comfortable while enjoying the activities during Stay & Play.

How can my daughter pay for items or activities?

• Stay & Play coupon cards can be pre-purchased through the MLC School payment page, with each card worth $10. There is a minimum spend of $20.

Additional cards can be purchased on the day (cash and EFTPOS accepted) from the Red Carpet.

Please note: All money raised through Stay & Play will be donated, so refunds for unused tokens will not be given at the end of the event.

How much money will my daughter need?

It is recommended that your daughter purchases cards worth $30 – $50 (that is three to five cards). When purchasing something at Stay & Play the girls will have their card stamped – the number of squares equal to the cost.

Toy Drive for Stay & Play

Spring is the perfect time for some Spring Cleaning! As you tidy up, if you come across any unused, undamaged, and clean toys, please consider bringing them to your daughter’s class. These toys will be collected as part of the toy drive for Stay & Play, scheduled for the last day of Term 3. We are now collecting toys. We look forward to concluding Term 3 with an enjoyable Stay & Play event.

What makes an Aussie?

You may recognise some of the images in this article…they are part of artist Peter Drew’s Aussie series, and they have been pasted onto walls across Sydney and nationwide, with our students spotting some on walls in the local area.

Year 5 students have been studying Peter Drew’s work and producing Aussie posters of their own. They have been thinking deeply about the ideas in his work and were excited to be able to hear the artist talk , and even answer some of their questions in a Zoom presentation from the National Maritime Museum.

I was so proud of our student’s engagement and enthusiasm and the insightful questions they asked the artist. They submitted almost 100 questions.

Rhianna asked “Why did you use the word Aussie instead of Australian?”

Amelia asked “if you were to change one decision in the past, would it be the White Australia Policy? If not, what?”

Isabella asked “ How long does it take to create one poster?

Eadie asked “What is your understanding of Aussie?”

Leila asked “Why do you chose to use real people rather than drawing fake ones?”

They were also interested to hear Peter speak about why he chooses to put his work in public spaces, rather than in an art gallery, something we had pondered over in class.

Take time to look out for the Aussie posters when you’re out and about over the holidays and see if they spark your curiosity too!

Year 5 Celebration of Learning

The Year 5 Celebration of Learning was a most eventful morning. We were proud to share all we had learnt over the previous eight weeks of term. This included our CLP infographic, STEM robotics, understanding of angles and precision use of maths tools. We also shared our letter from the goldfields linked to our novel The Night they Stormed Eureka.

The highlight of the morning was the drama performances which entertained parents and students alike. Each class performed different fractured fairytales that were packed with humour and crazy costumes. A big shout out to Samantha Anderson for writing such clever scripts and directing our performances.

What makes the Celebration of Learning so important is that it shows our understanding of learning throughout the term. All of us are extremely grateful to our parents and carers who found time to attend the celebrations and discover just how much growth the knowledge we have gleaned over the term.

Spotlight on PE in Year 2!

Year 2 students have built their object control skills and confidence throughout Term 3 Physical Education lessons. They have explored a range of object control skills including rolling, throwing, catching, kicking, dribbling and striking. Students have enjoyed using a range of different equipment to practice these skills in fun and active games. They have also worked cooperatively with partners and small groups, using positive communication to support and include others.

It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and growing confidence each week. To end the term, students will apply their learning through tee ball, where they will practise striking, fielding and working together as a team.

With only one week of the term remaining, I could not be prouder of our lovely Year 7 students.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of watching an extraordinary dance performance, and the girls were absolutely wonderful. It was clear how much effort, dedication and passion they have poured into their dancing throughout the year. I felt very fortunate to be in the audience for such a special performance, and I hope you enjoy this selection of backstage photos I have attached below.

I would also like to warmly congratulate the girls who received the 2026 Alice Chance Year 7 Composition Award. They demonstrated outstanding musical skill and creativity in composition, and our Head of Composition Alice Chance was extremely impressed by each of them. Well done, my lovely Year 7s!

This week has also been a wonderful one, with our annual House Athletics Carnival bringing great energy and excitement. The Year 7 girls were fantastic, cheering one another on throughout the events and showing kindness, Compassion and a wonderful sense of humour. They supported their Houses with great enthusiasm, and our Year 7 attendance at the carnival was excellent. This is certainly another moment to add to Ms Stolzi’s list of “things to be proud of” from our fantastic Year 7s. I look forward to sharing photos from the Athletics Carnival in next week’s article.

Year 8

Year 8 has enjoyed another busy and exciting week as we move through Term 3. This week was our Year 8 Chapel Service, led by the students of Wade Luminary. The service always provides a valuable opportunity for students to reflect and come together as a year group. Thank you to all of the students who contributed to the service through readings, and leadership.

The excitement continued on Thursday with the annual House Athletics Carnival. It was fantastic to see so many Year 8s in attendance, and with our exchange students, embracing the day with enthusiasm, house spirit and plenty of colour! The Year 8s competed on the track, in field events, and were cheering and encouraging their peers throughout the day. I am particularly proud of the way Year 8 supported one another and represented the school with such positivity and energy.

There have been so many other wonderful events where Year 8 have been beautiful ambassadors for the School; Dance Showcase, sports finals, debating and music performances just to name a few.

We look forward to our final week of term ahead and farewelling the Year 12 cohort, the Year 8 Big Sisters with smiles (and maybe a few tears!).

Year 9

As we approach the end of term, I would like to acknowledge the effort Year 9 students have put into preparing for and completing their assessments. With the main assessment period now behind them, I hope students can enjoy a calmer final week, take pride in their hard work and finish the term well.

It has also been lovely to see students contributing so positively beyond the classroom. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Dance Showcase, where the talent, confidence and dedication of our students were clearly on display. A huge congratulations to all of our dancers, and sincere thanks to the parents and carers who supported them through the many extra rehearsals and practices in the lead up to the showcase.

Tuesday’s House Athletics Carnival provided another opportunity to celebrate the energy and spirit of the cohort. I was incredibly proud of the way Year 9 participated, cheered for one another and encouraged their peers to give each event a go. Their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and willingness to support each other were a wonderful reflection of the character within this group, and I continue to see many future leaders emerging among them.

Looking ahead, our school community will celebrate Year 12 as MLC School prepares to farewell them next week. We have a number of Year 9 students with siblings in Year 12, and I hope this will be a special time for their families as they share in the celebrations and reflect on this important milestone.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our Year 9 students. I hope families are able to enjoy a restful weekend and a positive final week of term.

Year 10

Athletics Carnival

Year 10 enjoyed a wonderful day at the annual House Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. In perfect weather, students participated enthusiastically in cheering, the 200-metre race, shot put, long jump, high jump, turbo javelin and team-building activities. A particularly strong number competed in the 800 metres, earning valuable points for their Houses. Harlow Elsibai (Year 10) achieved a personal best in the high jump and competed alongside Veronica Pan (Year 10) in a nail-biting finish, with the whole year group cheering them on. Year 10 was recognised for demonstrating outstanding year-group spirit, and it was wonderful to see students encouraging one another throughout every event. This week’s photographs feature students from Sutton and Abbeythorpe, as well as the beginning of the team-building activities. We are very proud of the students’ participation, encouragement and House spirit.

Overseas Study Tours

As the holiday break approaches, three groups of Year 10 students are preparing to travel overseas. History students will visit Germany and Italy; Art and Design students will travel to New Zealand; and Drama and Dance students will visit London and Paris. Each study tour will provide valuable opportunities to participate in workshops, visit significant cultural and historical sites, and engage with Indigenous cultures and traditional art. Families and carers are encouraged to remind students that they are ambassadors for MLC School while overseas and to support them in approaching these experiences with curiosity, responsibility and a willingness to contribute positively to their groups. We look forward to hearing about their experiences and seeing their photographs when they return.

Farewell to Year 12

Week 9 marks the final week for Year 12. Year 10 students are looking forward to farewelling them at the Celebration Assembly. Some students will also have the special opportunity to see their older sisters graduate at the Valedictory Assembly, an especially meaningful occasion for their families. We look forward to celebrating these important milestones with the Year 10 community.

Summer Uniform Reminder

The warmer weather means that the girls can wear their summer uniform. Please ensure that your daughter does not wear excessive makeup, knee length skirt, and the uniform code requires simple jewellery – a watch, necklaces must not be seen, and girls can have one earring only in each ear. Any variations on the uniform require a uniform pass from the Head of Year office.

Year 11

This has been a truly momentous week for Year 11 .

On Tuesday, we enjoyed the annual House Athletics Carnival, which is always such a great day. I was so proud of Year 11, whose attendance, spirit, participation and encouragement of one another were outstanding throughout the day. They demonstrated what it means to come together as a cohort and support each other. As they prepare to step into their final year of school, this sense of connection and belonging will be more important than ever.

On Wednesday and Thursday evening, our Year 11 Drama students took to the stage for their performance. Congratulations to all of our talented performers. Having witnessed some of the dedication, rehearsals and hard work that went into preparing for these performances, I know how much commitment was required to bring them to life. We are incredibly proud of what they achieved.

Thursday also marked our Leadership Assembly, where we officially welcomed our 2027 Student Leadership Team. The energy and support shown by the entire Senior School community to celebrate the announcement was wonderful to see. Congratulations to all students who were elected to leadership positions (see details here). We are incredibly proud of you and have every confidence that you will serve the MLC School community with commitment, integrity and enthusiasm.

At the same time, one message has remained central throughout the leadership process: every member of the 2027 Year 12 cohort is a leader. Leadership is not defined by a badge or title. Each student has the capacity to make a positive contribution, support others and create meaningful change within the MLC School community. I have absolute faith in this cohort and am excited about what they will achieve together next year. I know they will make 2027 a year to remember.

Year 12

Congratulations to our Year 12 dancers on their outstanding performances at this year’s Dance Showcase. Tilly Ackland, Lily Clemens, Grace Farrow, Isabel Garner, Ella Hu, Sanjana Iyengar, Ellie Li, Kushla McCaul, Seraphine McNamara, Alexis Morcos, Han Nguyen, Jilly Pidcock, Zoya Rezainia, Haegan Sitou, Elyssa Tai, Zoe Taylor, Isabella Townsend and Sophie Winnall each captivated audiences with their talent and commitment, contributing to a memorable celebration of dance and a beautiful show. The performance was beautifully led by Dance Captain Isabella Townsend, whose confident and engaging hosting brought warmth, appreciation and joy to the evening. We also extend our thanks to Georgia O’Connor, Lilah Randall and Isabella Ho for their excellent work in stage management, helping to ensure the showcase ran seamlessly from beginning to end.

As Year 12 gathered together at a Year Meeting on Monday, the cohort was invited by Amy Murphy (Director of Professional Practice) to begin the important process of reflecting on and sharing their unique stories through their Graduate Reflections. The Year 12 Graduate Reflection asks students to thoughtfully consider the experiences, challenges, achievements and relationships that have shaped their journey at MLC School. It is an opportunity for each student to share her own story, celebrate her growth and resilience, and reflect on the contribution they have each made to the school community as they prepare for life beyond Year 12.

The wonderful spirit of the Class of 2026 was on full display at this week’s House Athletics Carnival. With vibrant colours, creative costumes and a soundtrack that kept the energy high throughout the day, students embraced every opportunity to celebrate together. More than the competition itself, the day highlighted the strong sense of community, enthusiasm and fun that has defined this year group, with students supporting one another and creating lasting memories!

This week also marked the cohort’s final Year 12 Chapel Service, a meaningful occasion of gratitude, reflection and hope. The service, coordinated by Rev Vinnie encouraged students to look back on years of learning, friendship, challenge and growth, while recognising the people who have supported them along the way and considering how they might carry compassion, courage and hope into the future. The themes of gratitude, strength and community were woven throughout the service, reminding students that they do not step into the next chapter alone. We extend our sincere thanks to Old Girl Megan Ebel (Class of 2024) for returning to share her personal reflection and words of encouragement with the graduating class.

On Thursday, the handover of leadership was a truly special moment. I extend my sincere thanks to the Year 12 Captains for the positivity, joy and generosity with which they passed the baton (badge?) on to the Class of 2027 School Captains. It was wonderful to witness their genuine enthusiasm and excitement for the student leaders who will follow in their footsteps. Their support, encouragement and pride in the next group of leaders reflected the very best of their own leadership.

As we look ahead to the final few days of school for the cohort, I encourage Year 12 to lead with gratitude, embracing every opportunity to celebrate the people, experiences and memories that have shaped their time at MLC School. We are excited for the wonderful days of celebration still to come and look forward to marking this special milestone together.

Presented by the Music Department and our current students, ‘All About Me(e)’ was a special concert celebrating Trevor Mee, Director of Music, before he leaves MLC School at the end of Term 3. The performance brought together students and staff from across the school in a heartfelt tribute, creating a memorable and emotional occasion for all who attended.

Dance Showcase

Congratulations to everyone who performed at our annual Dance Showcase held at NIDA over the weekend. As always, our dancers performed with confidence and energy, bringing a rich variety of pieces to the stage and demonstrating the depth of skill, teamwork and dedication that sits behind every performance. Congratulations to all students and staff involved in bringing such a polished and memorable showcase to life. Particular thanks are due to Dance Coordinator Jenna Skepper, Dance Teacher Kate Drady, Assistant Dance Coordinator Jess Dyson, and Dance Captain Isabella Townsend (Year 12).

High Potential Learning Showcase

Equally impressive was this week’s learning extension and enrichment showcase.

Across the Junior and Senior Schools, students work with our High Potential Learning experts, James Adams and Amy Kirk, on complex and challenging learning tasks. As students enthusiastically described their experiences in philosophy, mathematical problem-solving, advanced English texts, entrepreneurship and academic enrichment competitions such as the Ethics Olympiad and Tournament of Minds, it was clear that the program both challenges their learning and inspires genuine enjoyment.

2026 Dance Showcase | Forever Young

What a wonderful weekend it has been for our dancers, bringing months of hard work, creativity and dedication to life on stage at NIDA’s Parade Theatre. On Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September, Forever Young showcased the talent of almost 300 students from Year 3 to Year 12 across two inspiring performances. An audience of more than 1,000 family members, friends and members of the wider MLC School community were entertained at the performances.

Inspired by the timeless story of Peter Pan, Forever Young invited audiences on a journey where adventure awaits, dreams take flight and anything feels possible. Through movement, imagination and storytelling, our dancers explored themes of friendship, courage, wonder and self-discovery, reminding us of the joy that comes from believing in something extraordinary.

With close to 600 enrolments across our Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 co-curricular dance program in 2026, the showcase was a true celebration of the passion, commitment and creativity that thrives within the MLC School dance community. The production highlighted the breadth and diversity of dance at MLC School, with students performing a range of styles and showcasing their growth as artists and performers.

Behind the scenes, our Year 12 VET Entertainment volunteers, led by 2026 Crew Captain Lilah Randall (Year 12), worked tirelessly to bring the production to life. Their professionalism and teamwork ensured the smooth running of both performances.

A special congratulations goes to our Year 12 dancers, whose passion, artistry and dedication have left a lasting impression on both staff and students. Their contribution to the MLC School Dance community has been remarkable, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy they leave behind.

We would also like to acknowledge Isabella Townsend (Year 12) for her exceptional leadership, commitment and support throughout the year. Isabella’s contribution to the Dance program has been invaluable, and she has been an outstanding role model for her peers.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated Co-curricular Dance team: Jess Dyson, Kate Drady, Afamia Moussa, Claudia Willimann, Ivy Brasher, Jorja Papantoniou, Madison Clemens, Kira Fort, Madison Snowden, Lily Fordham and Tori Charalambous. Your unwavering dedication, creativity and investment in the program are truly inspiring. Through your collective efforts, you have created a supportive and inclusive environment where students can pursue their love of dance while feeling valued, encouraged and supported. Thank you for the positive impact you continue to make on our dancers and the broader MLC School community.

I would also like to thank Lisa Jinga, Head of Department DDE, Sarah Jauncey, Director of Experiential Learning, our supervising staff, and the team at NIDA for their ongoing support and contribution to the success of this production. Forever Young was more than a dance showcase. It was a celebration of imagination, connection and the enduring magic of dance. We are incredibly proud of every performer, crew member and volunteer who helped bring this year’s production to life and share the wonder of Neverland with our audience.

We now look forward to beginning training and preparations for an exciting 2027 season when classes resume in Term 4. There is much to look forward to, and we cannot wait to continue dancing together.

Sony Foundation Camp – Seeking Nursing and Medical Support

We ask that you please share this opportunity with any allied health, nurses or medical professionals that you know.

MLC School warmly invites nurses and medical professionals to volunteer expertise as part of 24-hour onsite medical staff for the 2026 MLC School Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp.

The four-day, three-night respite camp, hosted by Year 11 students and staff of MLC School will run from Wednesday 9 December to Saturday 12 December 2026 at Land’s Edge Foundation Harbour Lodge, 1 Chowder Bay Road, Mosman.

Children with additional needs who are attending the camp will be treated to a range of fun-filled activities from time at the beach to discos, magic shows, drumming workshops, craft and so much more!

In May 2022, Inner West Council committed to delivering a flagship inclusive play space across the Inner West in partnership with Touched by Olivia.

So far three of these play spaces have open – King George Park, Rozelle, Richard Murden Reserve, Haberfield and Yeo Park, Ashfield.

Chaplains Corner

As we move towards the close of Term 3, our school community has had much to celebrate, reflect on and give thanks for. In chapel this week, we reflected on Jesus’ parable of the two debtors from Luke 7:41–43 — a short story with a big message about grace, gratitude, and the way we respond to kindness freely given.

A grateful heart begins when we notice what has already been given to us. In the busyness of school life, it can be easy to overlook the everyday acts of care around us: the family member who encourages us, the teacher who explains something again, the friend who waits, the coach who cheers us on, or the person who quietly makes our day better. Gratitude opens our eyes to see that we do not walk through life alone.

This spirit of gratitude was especially visible in the excitement and energy of our annual school athletics competition. It was wonderful to see students participating with courage, enthusiasm, and house spirit, cheering one another on, giving their best, celebrating achievements and encouraging those around them. Events such as athletics remind us that success is not only found in ribbons or records, but also in effort, teamwork, resilience, and the joy of being part of a community.

Yesterday, we also celebrated an important moment in the life of the School with the announcement of the 2027 MLC School Captains. We give thanks for these students and the example of leadership they will offer in the year ahead. Leadership, like gratitude, is shown not only in words but in actions — in listening well, serving others, encouraging peers, acting with integrity, and helping to build a school community where every person feels valued and welcomed.

As Term 3 draws to a close, may we pause with grateful hearts for all that has been learned, shared and received, for friendships, teachers, families, opportunities, leadership, teamwork and the grace that carries us through. May our words speak thanks, our actions show kindness, and our school community continue to grow warmer, stronger, and more welcoming.

May God bless our students, families and staff with grateful hearts, generous spirits and courage for the days ahead. May we continue to grow together in kindness, joy and grace. Amen.

High Potential Learning Showcase

On Monday, MLC School was delighted to welcome parents and students to our first High Potential Learning Showcase, a celebration of curiosity, creativity and challenge across Junior School and Senior School.

The afternoon provided families with an opportunity to view a selection of student work, hear about the learning journeys behind each project, and learn more about the broad range of High Potential Learning opportunities on offer. Students presented their work in Horizons, Writer’s Society, Philosothon, Tournament of Minds, Da Vinci Decathlon and other enrichment experiences designed to extend students’ thinking and nurture their interests.

The Showcase also highlighted student agency, with learners making choices about how they investigated ideas, created products and shared their learning with an authentic audience.

We thank all families who attended and warmly congratulate the students involved for sharing their ideas, achievements and enthusiasm for learning with our community.

Tournament of Minds (TOM) Results

MLC School was proud to participate in this year’s Tournament of Minds (TOM), a problem-solving competition that challenges students to think creatively, work collaboratively and tackle complex challenges.

MLC School fielded a team in Primary STEM, Secondary STEM and Secondary Social Sciences. Students demonstrated remarkable ingenuity, resilience and teamwork as they developed solutions and prepared for competition day.

A particular highlight was the outstanding achievement of our Secondary STEM team, which was awarded Honours in its division, placing it among the top three teams in the region. For many of these team members, it was also their first Tournament of Minds experience.

Our Primary STEM team was recognised with the Spirit of TOM Award, an award presented to only one primary and one secondary team in each region. This award celebrates teams that exemplify the core values of Tournament of Minds through outstanding teamwork, creativity, perseverance and courage.

Congratulations to all of our Tournament of Minds participants on their commitment, enthusiasm and achievements.

Study Hub+

Term 3 2026 Study Hub+ – Fill in form

Study Hub+ is MLC School’s structured, pay‑per‑use after‑school study support program, designed for students in Year 7 to Year 12 who would benefit from more personalised academic guidance in a focused and supportive environment.

While the Study Hub provides a supervised space for independent study for Year 11 and Year 12, Study Hub+ offers a higher level of individualised, responsive support. Sessions are student‑led, allowing mentors to tailor assistance based on each student’s specific needs on the day. This may include consolidating class learning, clarifying assessment requirements, preparing for examinations, or developing effective and sustainable study routines.

Led by Program Coordinator Ela Huber, Study Hub+ is supported by a team of knowledgeable mentors, all of whom are pre‑service teachers or working towards a career in education. Most mentors are in the final stages of their undergraduate or Master of Teaching degrees and bring with them a strong depth of subject knowledge, alongside up‑to‑date, innovative and curriculum‑aligned resources. This ensures students receive guidance that is relevant and closely aligned with classroom expectations.

A key strength of Study Hub+ is the opportunity for students to work alongside a mentor, particularly when engaging with written tasks. Mentors can read through work with students, ask guiding questions, suggest improvements to structure, clarity and expression, and help students refine their ideas and arguments. While mentors are unable to mark work or provide grades, they can offer valuable feedback and editing support prior to submission, helping students better understand how to improve their work independently.

Mentors can support students with:

Revising and consolidating key concepts and class content
Examination preparation and revision strategies
Planning and organising assessments and study schedules
Reading through drafts alongside students and suggesting edits or refinements
Developing confidence, independence and effective study habits

Study Hub+ also plays an important role in supporting students in an era where AI is a valuable and encouraged tool at MLC School, but one that requires thoughtful, ethical and informed use. Students can sometimes over‑rely on AI when completing homework and assessments, which may leave them unsure about underlying concepts, task expectations or how to improve their own work.

At Study Hub+, mentors help reinforce the appropriate and ethical use of AI by guiding students to use these tools as a support for learning rather than a replacement for thinking. Mentors work with students to unpack questions, clarify concepts, check understanding and refine ideas, ensuring students remain actively engaged in their learning and confident in the work they submit.

Program Overview

Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 3.30pm–6pm (term time)
Location: Level 1, Senior Centre
Cost: $25 per session (2.5 hours) and charged to your daughter’s account at the end of term
Environment: Phone‑free zone to minimise distractions and promote positive study habits
Staffing: A minimum of two mentors per session, rotating to provide a range of subject expertise

Families are encouraged to register on a termly basis to support the development of consistent study routines, although weekly bookings remain available via Omnia and Audacia, the School e-newsletter. Students will receive a reminder email at approximately 2pm on their scheduled day confirming their session and assigned room.

Cancellation Policy

If your daughter is unable to attend a scheduled session, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged. In cases of illness where your daughter is absent from school, families will not be charged.

These operate 3.30pm–6pm Monday to Thursday during term time.

Year 11 and Year 12 After-Hours Study Hub

Recognising the importance of a conducive environment for focused study, MLC School has established a free after-hours Study Hub exclusively for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. Located on Level 3 of the Senior Centre, the Study Hub provides a quiet and supportive space where students can concentrate on their studies, complete assessments, and prepare for examinations under the supervision of experienced MLC School staff across many subject areas.

Key Features:

Experienced staff: Two teachers rostered each evening from different subject areas, to guide and assist students with their academic queries and provide valuable feedback.
Convenient location: Level 3 of the Senior Centre, providing easy access for Senior students.
Flexible hours: The study hub is open Monday to Thursday 3.30pm–6pm, allowing students to make the best use of their time outside regular school hours. Partial attendance is welcome.

We encourage all Year 11 and Year 12 students to take advantage of this excellent resource to enhance their learning experience and achieve their academic goals. The staff roster will be published in advance of each week in Audacia, the School newsletter. Students will be required to sign in on arrival to Study Hub and sign out on departure, as part of our student welfare management system.

Another busy week in MLC School Sport as we move closer to the Term 3 finals, with more information and updates provided below.

This week, we held our Senior School House Athletics Carnival, one of the biggest events on the school sporting calendar. It was a fantastic day, with outstanding attendance and participation from our students. The level of school spirit was exceptional, creating a wonderful atmosphere throughout the carnival.

A huge congratulations to Wade House on taking out the double: House Spirit and Championship winners. Well done to the Sports Captains, Patrons and Head of House on an outstanding result.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank all Heads of House for their tremendous effort, organisation and support throughout the day. Events such as this rely heavily on the commitment of our staff and students, and it was fantastic to see everyone contributing to such a successful carnival.

It was great to see MLC01 Senior Water Polo take home the Gold, while MLC03 also finished on the podium with a Bronze Medal. MLC04 Junior A will also be taking on Ascham in their semi! They have battled hard over the term to earn their spot – and it is fully deserved! There are so many new faces to hockey in this team, and they have smashed it out of the park to have a shot at the title!

Congratulations to all teams on a fantastic badminton season!

Throughout the term, we have seen a high standard of competition across all divisions, with players demonstrating outstanding skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Water Polo – MLC School Friday Night Competition Grand Finals

Congratulations on a fantastic term of Friday Night Water Polo! MLC School is so pleased to have seen so many happy faces on Friday – the positive energy and enthusiasm was amazing!

Special mention to our cheerleader and MLC03 Team Member – Matilda Owusu (Year 7) – Thank you for cheering on the girls!

Congratulations to MLC01 for taking the victory in our Senior Division! The Grand Final was a nail biting finish, however MLC School came out on top with 5-3 against Ascham. Amazing job girls! Well done to our Water Polo Captain, Eve Ireland (Year 12) for leading the team.

Congratulations to our MLC School Junior School Track & Field Athletes!

Congratulations to our Junior School Track & Field athletes who represented IPSHA at the recent CIS Carnival at SOPAC.

Amelia Ko and Calais Durie, both Year 6, and Gem McGuire, Year 5, competed against some of the best young athletes in the state and represented MLC School exceptionally well.

Calais battled through a niggling injury to produce a personal best (PB) in the High Jump and finish equal 5th overall a fantastic effort.

Gem enjoyed an outstanding carnival, claiming three medals across the 100m, 200m and Shot Put.

Amelia also brought home some impressive silverware, winning medals in the 100m and taking Gold in the 800m.

Congratulations to all three girls on their outstanding performances, resilience, and commitment. We wish them all the very best as they continue the next stage of their athletics journey!

Diving Success at NSW Diving Junior Championships

Diving NSW Junior Championships / 2nd Interclub, as well as some recent progress with the MLC School Diving Club.

MLC School Diving Club had 15 athletes competing across nine events, achieving:

5 first-place finishes
3 second-place finishes
1 third-place finish

We also had three athletes achieve qualification for national-level championships:

Emma Yan (Year 4) – Australian National Skills Championships

This competition was also an important milestone for the Club for two of our male athletes, who became the first male athletes to represent MLC School Diving Club in competition, finishing first and second respectively in Pathways Boys Level 3.

Since the MLC School Diving Club was established in early June, 77 members have chosen to join the Club. In addition, 22 students are currently participating in MLC School’s Co-Curricular Diving program. In a relatively short period, participation across MLC School diving has grown to close to 100 enrolments, and the program continues to expand.

MLC School, Head of Diving Shixin (Golden), is very pleased with the progress so far, and hopes to continue to introduce more students to diving and further develop the MLC School Diving pathway. As an Olympian, Golden brings a wealth of experience and inspiration to the program, helping students see what can be achieved through perseverance and a love of the sport.

Play of the Week

We would like to congratulate our MLC School Captain, Senior First Netball Team Member and Premier League UTS Randwick Sparks Netball Team Member, Anisha Sivagurunathan (Year 12) on her amazing achievement last week.

Drone Racing Course at Holsworthy

Over the last weekend, five cadets from our MLCSACU had the privilege of attending the Drone Racing 1 course at Holsworthy Barracks, which provided us with the unique opportunity to experience activities that are not part of our usual cadet activities. Throughout the weekend, we were taught how to fly drones that are often used in drone racing through FPV (first-person view). Additionally, we participated in a live fire activity using EF88 rifles, while also experiencing life on the barracks and working alongside cadets from other units. The course offered a valuable opportunity to develop new skills, work with other cadets, and build confidence in a new environment.

The lessons on drones were extremely in-depth and taught us how to operate the racing drones using a controller. At first, controlling the drones was very difficult, but after many lessons, advice from professional drone racers, and practice using the online drone simulation VelociDrone, we were able to direct the drones through obstacles using FPV goggles. Being taught how to use these drones was extremely interesting and definitely pushed us to challenge ourselves. We all hope that these skills we have learnt will come to good use in future drone racing opportunities.

Being able to participate in a live fire activity with the EF88 was extremely interesting and an amazing experience. Learning how the rifles were used in field conditions, how they manoeuvre, and the mechanics behind the weapon was really insightful, and we had the opportunity to talk to specialists in the area. It was an amazing experience, and we were all very grateful to be able to take part in it.

A major part of our experience at the course was meeting cadets from different units. Some of us had never met any cadets outside of our own MLCSACU, and it was interesting being exposed to the different conduct each unit follows and learning how they are contrastingly organised. The course introduced us to new people and allowed us to socialise with a variety of cadets across Sydney.

Overall, the Drone Racing 1 course was an incredibly valuable and memorable experience. From learning how to operate racing drones to participating in the live fire activity and meeting cadets from different units, the weekend allowed us to experience new opportunities outside of our usual cadet activities. We were able to challenge ourselves, develop new skills, and gain a better understanding of the different experiences available within cadets. We are all extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to attend the course and hope to use what we have learnt in future cadet opportunities.

Service-Learning

Lucas Gardens

A group of Year 10 students recently spent time serving at Lucas Gardens School assisting with their social program and supporting students through a range of activities. By sharing their time, energy, and friendship, our students helped create a welcoming and enjoyable environment while developing a deeper appreciation of inclusion, compassion, and community.

“We were very fortunate to have this opportunity of visiting Lucas Gardens School, and we found it very valuable and insightful. It gave us better understanding of how different disabilities affected the lives of many children, however, we also saw firsthand that their disabilities did not define who they were. As we played bowling and parachute with our buddies, it was incredibly heartwarming to see how excited some of the students were to see one another, greeting their friends with such genuine happiness and enthusiasm.”

St Mary’s Aged Care and Uniting Locke Haven

Year 6 students serve by visiting residents at St Mary’s Villa Residential Aged Care and Uniting Locke Haven, sharing conversation, companionship, and friendship across generations. Through these visits, students bring joy to residents while developing empathy, respect, and a deeper understanding of community.

“When I first arrived at St Marys, I wasn’t sure what to expect. At first, I felt a little nervous about talking to the elderly residents, but as we spent more time with them, I became more comfortable. I enjoyed listening to their stories and learning about their experiences. The visit showed me how important it is to spend time with and listen to older people.”

Early Bird Café for the homeless at St Stephen’s Uniting Church

Staff members regularly volunteer at the Early Bird Café at St Stephen’s Uniting Church on Macquarie Street, preparing and serving breakfast to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Through offering hospitality, conversation, and care, staff put MLC School’s values of compassion, service, and community into action.
