Year 9

Year 9

It is nearly halfway through the term, and it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm with which Year 9 have engaged with the academic and co-curricular areas of the school. Many students attended or ran stalls at the Clubs and Societies Lunchtime Expo on Wednesday, which was a lively and vibrant event. You can read more about what Clubs and Societies are on offer in this newsletter. This enthusiasm was also evident in the near-record number of Year 9 students who completed their registration for the Duke of Edinburgh program this week.

During our year meeting, Year 9 had the opportunity to reflect on the ‘STOP, START, CONTINUE’ academic goals they set in Week 2, and consider what steps they had taken this term to help them achieve these goals. Students were also reminded of the different avenues for academic support that are available at MLC School. These are:

Their classroom teacher: Students are encouraged to speak to their classroom teacher if they have questions or need support in a particular subject.

Lunchtime clinics: Staffed by MLC School teachers, these ‘drop in’ clinics are run during lunch on the following days:

  • Mathematics: Tuesday and Thursday
  • English: Tuesday

Study Hub +: A pay-per-use after school program to support students with study and goal setting. Sessions run from 3.30pm to 6pm Monday to Thursday in the Senior Centre. There will always be a minimum of two tutors at each session and these tutors rotate daily to give the students access to a variety of tutors and subject offers. More information can be found here.

Wearne Library: Popular for quiet study, collaborative classes, group work and co-curricular clubs. The Wearne Library opening hours during term time are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: 7.30am – 5.30pm
  • Friday: 7.30am – 4.30pm

Please do not hesitate to contact me or your daughter’s Luminary teacher if you have any queries, concerns or simply wish to touch base about her academic, social and emotional wellbeing.
