Year 5 PDHPE Class Learn to be Sunsafe
Last term Year 5 learnt all about safe practices relating to the sun and the skin.
They used critical thinking skills to investigate how to make their World safer from UV radiation. The Year 5 students also explored the ways in which sun safety is promoted and the myths surrounding sun protection. Throughout the unit we also explored the way that UV radiation behaves and how it impacts the skin. It wasn’t only about educating the Year 5 students about sun safety, many times throughout the semester the girls needed to conduct ‘dinner conversations’ with their family. This meant that they did a mini presentation to their family on what they were learning in Physical Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
To finish off the learning the students became architects and designed and built sun safe and inclusive playgrounds for the students at MLC School. The playgrounds needed to be sun safe, be inclusive for everyone to use and encourage students to be physically active. The final product was AMAZING!
