Year 11
Leadership
As part of a series of leadership sessions in Luminary, this week students explored the concept of “everyday leadership” by watching a TED Talk on how small actions can significantly impact others. They discussed personal experiences of how simple gestures, like a compliment or offering help, made a difference in their lives and brainstormed ways they could practice leadership in their daily interactions. The students were challenged to identify one small action to impact someone else’s day positively.
This Luminary session should contribute to developing a more profound sense of empathy, improving their communication skills, and fostering a mindset of leadership that empowers them to influence their communities positively in the long term.
Year 11 & 12 Study Hub
Year 11 have been using the after school Study Hub that runs from 3.30pm to 6pm each day, please see this link for more details. Many are finding it beneficial to stay focused with the influence of their peers and prevent being distracted when they are at home. Each week, I provide the students with a list of staff and their faculties so the students can plan their attendance around this.
Examination block
Last week, I mentioned that the schedule for the examination block had been released. Students will wear full school uniform during this time and only need to be here for their examinations. Regardless of their mode of transport, please discuss with your daughter about arriving safely and well in advance of the starting times of examinations.
Students are more than welcome to study at school during the examination block; when they do, they should sign into the study space on Level 3 of the Senior Centre. Students should begin or further refine their plans with only two weeks away to the examination block, creating subject-specific to-do lists and identifying helpful study zones for this period. We will have further discussions at school about this.
Please encourage your daughter to contact me or the staff they feel comfortable with for advice on managing this time.
The image in this week’s newsletter is/are from Year 11 student Mary Cameron’s visit with Jocelyn Maughan OAM (1995). To read more about Jocelyns’ visit, please refer to Lisa Moloney’s article.
“I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Maughan OAM, the artist and MLC School Old Girl, who is in the process of creating Ms. Moloney’s portrait. The experience was enlightening, and Ms. Maughan’s passion, memory, excellence, patience, and sheer intelligence captivated me the entire time.”
