Year 11

Year 11

Leadership

Thank you for your support with uniform this term. Year 11 students are quickly presenting themselves as leaders of the School. I look forward to the cohort continuing to put themselves forward for opportunities of leadership such as Luminary Representatives, MLC School tour guides and café volunteers.

As mentioned at this week’s Year 11 parent teacher evening on Wednesday 12 February, these skills of leading others will be inherently useful in the years to come. Students are beginning to write an expression of interest when they volunteer for these opportunities so that they move into the mindset of applying for leadership and begin to articulate why they would like a leadership opportunity.

Luminary

This week in Luminary, our Luminary Representatives led sessions to discuss how the groups are experiencing Year 11. Many students are trying hard to be organised and keep up with the demands of their senior courses. This was a way of exploring and normalising their experiences and sharing ideas about organisation and what works.

Luminary groups also explored our Year group’s Canvas page and the support available at the click of a button, such as Counselling, Health Centre, e-Learning, Careers pages and the Year 11 Assessment Calendar for 2025. Thank you to Year 11 Prescott Luminary Representatives Eri Takeshita and Isabelle Ng, and Year 11 Sutton Luminary Representatives Eve Parker and Isabel Garner for the suggestions.

The slides from the presentation at the Year 11 Information Evening from Wednesday 12 February 2025 is available below.

Year 11 2025 Parent information evening

In a letter you received earlier in the term from Joanna Graffen, she wrote that we would be planning 1:1 check-ins for students. We are currently finalising the arrangements for progress conversations for the Year 12 group, and following this, we will reach out to you about your daughter’s appointment. This will be in Term 2 after their reports and parent-teacher interviews. We see this as an opportunity for you and your daughter to consolidate the information you have received at that stage and have a coaching conversation about their engagement, progress and study habits moving forward.

I hope Mooramoora and Leawarra families enjoy their respective House Chapel services this Sunday.

If you have any queries, I can be contacted via email at arenwick@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au or my direct line at 8741 3278.
