Year 10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies – Wheelchair NRL Incursion
Last week Year 10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies (Pass) participated in an incursion presented by Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL).
They have been exploring the topic of inclusion in sport and the issues faced by athletes with disabilities. Stephan the presenter is a wheelchair user with spina bifida who has represented the Australian Wheelaroos on multiple occasions and plays WRL with the Wests Tigers club. He was assisted by Neil a NSW State of Origin (WRL) coach. Stephan even left us his second ever NSW WRL State of Origin jersey as a momento of their insightful visit
The Wheelchair Rugby League incursion was a valuable experience that brought joy to my teammates and peers. We were spoken to as a group by Stephan about self esteem and the challenges that has faced throughout his life and his quest to get people to focus on ability. I am so grateful as a class we got to spend time trying this new sport and after some practice manoeuvring the wheelchairs we were able to play some 3v2 games which was really fun!
