Year 10 PDHPE – Term 4 Highlights
Recreational Sport and Issues of Youth Today
This term, Year 10 students have been actively engaged in two dynamic units during their Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) lessons: Recreational Sport and Issues of Youth Today.
In the Recreational Sport practical unit, students developed their understanding of how to maximise involvement in physical activity and gain a comprehensive view of what it takes to run and organise sporting sessions. Working in groups, students had the opportunity to take charge of their learning by designing fun and interactive lessons. Throughout this process students took on various roles such as coach, umpire, equipment manager, publicity manager, scorer, and timekeeper.
The Issues of Youth Today unit focuses on critical topics that impact young people’s lives. In groups students examined case studies on topics including, equity and discrimination, coercive control/domestic violence, mental health, vaping, impact of excessive screen time on social skills, and lack of physical activity amongst teenage girls. Additionally, as part of this unit students explored how values influence decision-making, aiming to equip them with the knowledge to make safe and positive choices in the future. Students also participated in activities designed to practice and evaluate interpersonal skills, which are crucial for their personal development and future interactions.
Both units are integral to the holistic development of Year 10 students, providing them with practical experiences and theoretical knowledge that will serve them well beyond the classroom. We look forward to seeing how these lessons will shape their perspectives and actions in the coming years.
