FOOTBALL NEWS
Congratulations to our Junior Representative Football team. This week they played their Bill Turner trophy match against St Joseph’s East Gosford and won 4-1! They will now progress to Round 6 hoping to make the quarter finals! Good luck!
What was most humbling was the email we received from the St Joseph’s coach. During the break, they had a student pass away and informed MLC School that the team would be wearing black arm bands during the match.
‘To the Principal of MLC and those associated with the Bill Turner Cup soccer competition. Thank you very much for the flowers presented to our girls at the start of yesterday’s soccer match between our two schools. They were much appreciated. It was such a thoughtful tribute; our girls were touched by the gesture. We had several Year 9 students in the team, and it meant a lot to them. It has been a difficult time for the girls and the school community, little things like the giving of flowers means so much and assists in the healing. Sahara was a much-loved Year 9 student at our college, and she will be sadly missed. We are having a service on Friday, for her and we will pass on your flowers to the parents on your behalf.
I was the coach of the team yesterday and I am also the Year 9 Leader. Your girls played very well and were excellent in their sportsmanship throughout. The game was entertaining and played in a very good spirit. Please congratulate all concerned and wish them well as they enter further into the competition.’
Sometimes, sport is more than just about rivalry and competition. Above all, sport is about respect, sportsmanship and compassion.
