AFL and Hockey Success for MLC School Students

Early in May, four talented students from MLC School participated in the Combined Independent Schools 15U AFL trials.

  • Darcey Costello (Year 9)
  • Lottie Cleland (Year 10)
  • Xanthe Johnson (Year 9)
  • Georgia Coxsedge (Year 9)

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside and against athletes from the Swans and Giants Academies. Xanthe and Georgia were selected for the possible/probable match, with Georgia earning a place in the CIS team to compete at the NSW All Schools Carnival in Albury.

At the carnival, Georgia’s CIS team performed exceptionally well, finishing as runners-up on percentages and losing only one game — a significant improvement from last year. Georgia found the experience deeply rewarding, enjoying both the competition and the chance to connect with students from across NSW. Her outstanding performance led to her selection in the NSW All Schools 15U AFL team, which will compete at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Queensland in July/August. Congratulations, Georgia!

Georgia’s sporting achievements this year extend beyond AFL. Alongside her sister Abby Coxsedge (Year 11), she also attended the IGSA Hockey selection trials. Despite recently recovering from a foot fracture, Abby was selected for the possible/probable game in the open age group and represented Sydney South at the Hockey NSW 18U State Carnival, where her team narrowly missed out in the semi-final.

Georgia was selected for the IGSA 15U Hockey team, which competed at the CIS selection trial in Moorebank. She then progressed to the CIS 15U team and participated in the All Schools 15U selection trial in Newcastle in early June. The CIS team topped their pool games, and following a series of skill trials, Georgia was selected for the NSW All Schools 15U team to compete at the School Sport Australia competition in Canberra this August.

Well done to both Abby and Georgia — we are incredibly proud of your dedication and achievements!
