Rowing News
Last weekend saw the culmination of months of training and pre-event distance races with two crews from MLC School competing in the Annual Head of the Yarra Regatta in Melbourne.
This year we drove down and back in the school coaster bus, seeing many historical and other landmarks on the trip.
We boated a Year 10 and a combined Year 10 to Year 12 crew in the event.
On Friday we put our boats together and did a reverse run over the 8.7km course practising a few of the bends on the way. The Head of the Yarra course is very winding and technical, making a clean run difficult but rewarding as far as reducing your overall time.
Both crews nailed the race with great courses by our coxswains Sophia Grave (Year 11) and Stephy Liang (Year 10). The Year 10 crew coming away with a gold medal and the other crew missing out on gold by 4 seconds. This was heartbreaking considering the race took 36 minutes and they had to re-overtake the crew that eventually won. Both crews did great times showing the commitment amongst the group.
The crews also dominated the Head of the Yarra social media and must have come away as the most recognised crews.
Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to the parents that made the trip to Melbourne for your support across the weekend.
