Peter Solness Photography Workshop Illuminates
A special thank you to Peter Solness who visited MLC School on Wednesday 9 June 2021 for a professional photographic workshop. Peter is a renowned and multi-award winning contemporary photographer who was most recently selected by Ben Quilty to be a finalist in the 2019 Dobell Drawing Prize. He specialises in the photographic method of Light Painting. This involves mounting his camera on a tripod and working in darkness to allow long camera exposures of between 4 to 60 seconds. These long exposure times mean he can hand-illuminate his chosen subjects using small torches to create visual effects not generally associated with traditional methods of photography.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed learning about the significant role light has in creating a photographic image. The girls explored the concepts of shutter speed, long exposure, white balance, degrees kelvin and composition in a fun and exciting manner.
We hope to see Peter back for future workshops.
