Japanese Culture Society Update
Last week at JCS, our Year 12 leaders gave us a visit, and we handed out some presents for everyone in the leadership team to acknowledge their hard work this past year. We are wishing all of them good luck in their trials in Week 3 and Week 4!
This week’s culture section was about ‘Umi no Hi’ (海の日), which is a public holiday in Japan, also known as ‘Ocean Day’. It is celebrated on the third Monday of July each year. The holiday was established to appreciate the ocean’s importance and to encourage awareness of the marine environment. Umi no Hi became an official national holiday in 1996, and it has been observed ever since. On this day, people in Japan celebrate in various ways, including beach outings, water-related activities, marine-themed events, and festivals.
A final good luck and thanks to our Year 12 students, we wish you all the best!
We are hoping to see you next Friday at lunch on Level 3 of the Senior Centre!
