Indonesian Students Spruik their Talents To Budding Young Linguists

‘How does it feel to walk in the shoes of a teacher?’

Year 10 Indonesian students recently found out when they shared their language knowledge with the Year 2 students at Campsie Public School. The outing was the culmination of four years of language study for the MLC School students and also provided an opportunity to sample Indonesian food. Mmmm. ‘Enak sekali!‘ In the words of student Dina Saeed:

‘We interacted with the students there, teaching them different activities, games and vocabulary in Indonesian. Each member of our class collaborated on Indonesian activities as groups rotated and learnt new and various skills from each activity. This experience utilised our skills from previous years using basic vocabulary from the topics of numbers, colours, animals and family and immersed us into the Indonesian culture as we expressed our new knowledge. We are extremely grateful to be a part of this experience and share our learning.’

Other students commented:

‘It was really good to interact with the Campsie kids and see how they interacted with each other’.
Eliza Kershaw MacDonald

‘They had a lot of fun and we had a lot of fun. It was interesting to see how they learnt’.
Ashley Denton

Interestingly, the Campsie Public School teacher in charge of the class is MLC School Old Girl Abbie Messiter (1985). Abbie learnt Indonesian as a student at MLC School and is still going strong with her language skills, passing on her knowledge to the next generation of Australians so that they can communicate with our nearest neighbour.
