From the Head of Junior School
I am writing this week’s newsletter from the Australian Primary Principal’s Association conference. It has been a privilege to gather with other school leaders from across Australia and New Zealand, learning collaboratively how we can best support and lead our communities in an ever-changing world.
It has been a busy week with many events involving our school community. Last Sunday Junior School Mooramoora House hosted their annual Chapel Service and the Kindergarten to Year 5 assembly. Thanks to all those involved, and your support for the Great Book Swap last week. It was a wonderful success. Thank you also to those parents who took the time this week to attend Coffee with the Principal and our Junior School Deputies, and Kindergarten parents who participated in this week’s Celebrations of Learning.
Richelle Gyau-Awuah
I have some sad news. Some of you will remember class teacher Richelle Gyau-Awuah. Richelle commenced teaching during 2022, returning to Australian from the United Kingdom. She taught Year 6 and Year 1. She was an outstanding educator. Richelle passed away on Wednesday morning due to a brain tumour. If this news is something you would like your daughter to discuss with one of our School counsellors, please contact me. Please keep Richelle’s husband, three children, parents, sister and other family members in your prayers and thoughts. Richelle’s funeral will be held at Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium at 12.30pm on Friday 5 September 2025.

RoboCup
This has been an extremely successful week for our Junior RoboCup teams. Our three Junior School teams, mentored by our STEM teachers Bede Schofield and Marie Cassar competed in RoboCup NSW State ‘OnStage Novice Primary Division’ and took out first and third place over the two full days of competition. We are very proud of all our Junior Competition Robotics students. You can read more about their experience in this article.

IPSHA Athletics Carnival
We had a number of girls representing MLC School at the IPSHA Athletics Carnival and Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Congratulations to each girl for being selected and please read our Sports section for more details.
Father’s Day Events
Father’s Day Raffle
Thank you to all who donated to our P&F Father’s Day raffle.
Each family has received a flyer and emailed raffle tickets. Tickets are sold online via a QR code. There is no limit to the number tickets you can purchase or sell. Winners will be drawn next Friday morning, following the Paper Plane Challenge. Thank you for your support and generosity.
Father’s Day Stall
All students, Pre-K to Year 6 are provided a designated time purchase a gift for their father, grandfather, uncle or other significant male prior to Father’s Day at our Father’s Day stall. Cash and card payments will be available at the stall. If you prefer that your daughter does not participate, please inform your daughter’s class teacher in advance. Days as follows:

Open stall to all students and parents.
All proceeds from the raffle and stall go to the Junior School P&F. Past proceeds have provided the School with the sports field seating, Junior School flagpoles and School House mascots and flags. We hope to contribute to a new climbing playground on the Junior School Campus.
Father’s Day Breakfast – Friday 5 September 2025
All students with their fathers or significant other are welcome to attend the School’s Father’s Day Breakfast at the Bird Bath Quad on the main campus from 7.15am to 8.15am.
Paper Planes Challenge – Friday 5 September 2025
8.30am – 9.30am (8.15am for Year 6)
Junior School Playground
Kindergarten to Year 6 parents and carers are invited to join us on the Junior school campus after the Father’s Day Breakfast for our Paper Planes Challenge.
Dads and significant others are invited to work with their daughters to make a paper plane and participate in the Paper Plane Challenge. Please go directly to your daughter’s studio following the Father’s Day Breakfast. Every student will make a paper plane and participate in the Paper Plane races. (Instructions to make a paper plane will be provided).
If you have more than one daughter in the Junior School, you may collect them and go to one classroom to make a ‘family’ plane. Please let the class teacher know if you are taking one of your daughters to another studio. (Please go to the youngest child’s studio).
For the flying competition, Year 6 will walk across to the Junior School campus when ready. Pre-Kindergarten will stay upstairs and have their own paper plane event in their studio. Pre-Kindergarten students with an older sibling are an exception, they will join their family on the lower playground with the rest of the Junior School.
