From the Deputy Head of Junior School – Wellbeing – Leadership in Year 5

At MLC Junior School all the Year 5 girls are given the opportunity to lead the Junior School. Last Friday, all Year 5 students participated in their first leadership training day.

To enable the girls to continue to get to know each other we had many ‘icebreaker’ activities over the day. These were a lot of fun but also helped the girls to mix with many different girls – old and new.

To support every student to develop skills to enable them to grow as leaders, the girls learnt about the Round Square Discoveries of Self-awareness, Courage, Responsibility, Communication, Teamwork and Problem-solving.  This learning also lots of fun activities to enjoy.

Some comments from the girls follow:

I learnt something new about my partner. I liked learning about Round Square and the Round Square characters and I learned how to be a good leader.

I loved learning about other people. It was so fun! I am so happy that I get to spend the year with everyone.

I liked meeting people and making friends. I will probably use the questions from the sheet to make even more friends.

I enjoyed learning about each other and learning about myself.

My highlight was that I loved playing ‘whispers’ and also the other fun games.

I enjoyed making/meeting new friends and the icebreakers. I learnt how to work as a team and people’s names and who they are.
