Around The Grounds
This year as Captain for the MLC School Girls Football Team 2025, I’ve been able to capture the hard work and effort of this year’s Soccer team. This term at the start of winter, things were a bit rough. We were all freezing during early morning games (seriously, who likes foggy fields and icy boots?), and our passing wasn’t great either. Sometimes we’d all crowd around the ball like seagulls on hot chips and forget to spread out and play like a team. But our coach, Zach, kept on encouraging us and we practiced calling out to each other, doing triangle passes, and learning how to stay in our positions instead of chasing the ball all the time. But after more than one game together we started to work better as a team. Being captain has made me see how the team works together and the encouragement they show, is unbeatable. Whilst saying that I asked Hope Chapman (Year 7), one of the defenders in our team, what she liked about this season as well as Lilah Dao (Year 7), one of our Midfield players what she liked about this season.
Hope’s Note – ‘I loved how the team formed a fun relationship together. I also loved helping keep the balls away from the goal and fun team cheers!’
Lilah’s Note – ‘As of 2025, Year 7 have played well this year. Even though we have had our loses we played our hardest. Losing against Monte by 1 point is an amazing achievement we have accomplished. Scoring many goals dribbling, teamwork, and a lot of effort into trying our best to win, and of course Chloe, blocking out many goals from the opposing team with all her skills in goal keeping, Scoring everywhere Harriet and Zara, Lilah, Nahla and Stella being everywhere on the field and our defence bringing the ball all the way to the front. Hope and Abby blocking the ball and kicking it all the way to the goals. Gemma caring for the team and kicking it to open spaces and her teammates and Mari doing skills on people when they try and get the ball, Hannah joining our team two weeks later and playing her absolute best for her first time.’
