Year 6 – Connections with Real-Life Service
Last Friday, a group of Year 6 girls visited Uniting Locke Haven, providing a meaningful opportunity to connect real‑life service with the values of the Uniting Church. The visit was a great success, filled with laughter, singing, shared stories and, of course, ice cream. Most importantly, it was a chance for the girls to build connections and bring joy to others. Below are some reflections from the girls about their experience.
‘During our trip to Uniting Haven Locke our favourite part of the day was meeting all the kind elderly people and hearing their stories, seeing their beautiful AI posters, and writing gratitude notes to all of them. This experience is one we will never forget.’
– Lucie Elias and Vaani Narang
‘In our trip to Uniting Haven Locke, I loved meeting the kind, elderly people, performing our songs, listening to advice, and learning about their pasts. We looked at their projects about “Hug Your Younger Self”. One man told me that he came from Ireland and travelled to Australia by boat. Thank you for letting us contribute to this wonderful program.’
– Serena Li
‘I really enjoyed going to the nursing home and meeting all the elderly and learning all their stories. They gave us some useful advice for the future, for example ‘don’t rush making money, just enjoy the little bits of life’. Overall it was a great experience, and I hope I can do it again.’
– Peita Nikolakopoulos
‘I am so glad l got to experience the “Hug Your Younger Self” program, and to see all the elderly peoples quotes and the time I had with them. l learnt about their personalities, and they told us ‘not to rush your life, and to take your time”.’
