Year 2 Excursion – “Stories from the Reef” at the Sydney Opera House

Year 2 Excursion – “Stories from the Reef” at the Sydney Opera House

On Thursday 12 June Year 2 embarked on an exciting journey into the city for an unforgettable excursion to the iconic Sydney Opera House. The day was filled with excitement, discovery, and learning, as students experienced the magic of live performance and explored one of Australia’s most famous landmarks.

The highlight of the excursion was attending Stories from the Reef, a vibrant and engaging workshop celebrating the beauty and diversity of life of the Sydney Opera House Artificial Reef Project. Through movement, puppetry, and storytelling, the workshop brought to life the underwater world of the harbour in a way that was both educational and entertaining. Students were captivated by the colourful sea creatures, the environmental themes, and the important messages about caring for our environment.

Students also took part in a guided tour of the Opera House. They were fascinated to learn about the history, architecture, and behind-the-scenes workings of this world-renowned performing arts centre. From walking through the concert hall foyers to peeking into the theatres and rehearsal spaces, the tour provided a unique insight into what goes on beyond the stage.

The excursion linked with current learning in Dance and Drama and CLP, reinforcing themes of storytelling, systems and sustainability, and Under the Sea. It was also a wonderful opportunity for students to practice being responsible, respectful members of the school community while out and about in the city.

The girls all had such a fantastic day, and we’re sure it’s a day the students will remember for years to come!
