MLC School’s Junior Theatresports team at Impro Australia’s semi-finals school challenge

MLC School’s Junior Theatresports team at Impro Australia’s semi-finals school challenge

A huge congratulations to MLC School’s Junior Theatresports team:

  • Claudia Rowe (Year 7)
  • Caitlin Ward (Year 7)
  • Ellie Moran (Year 7)
  • Addison McShane (Year 8)

The students shone on stage as they entertained us leaving the audience roaring with laughter at the semi-finals of Impro Australia’s schools’ challenge held at St Patrick’s School on Wednesday evening. The students performed and competed with nine schools. The competition was strong and only two teams could go through the finals. Whilst our MLC School team didn’t make it through, it was an invaluable experience for our students, putting the skills they are learning in class on the stage and in the spotlight!

Theatresports is a performance, made up entirely on the spot with only a 3-5 second preparation time. Each group then performs a game, with each game having it’s own rules. There are one minute, two minute and three minute games. The students choose one game from each section. They then perform and are given a mark from 1-5 from three judges. The team with the highest points wins and the winning teams move up to next stage of the competition.

We are so proud of our Junior team for making it to the semi finals, especially considering this competition was the first they had competed in. We are so proud of Ellie, Claudia, Caitlin and Addison for their bravery and commitment and being excellent role models of MLC School. Impro Australia’s Theatresports schools challenge is a wonderful opportunity to bring like-minded students from a number of schools, together and support each other in this friendly competition.

‘The theatresports competition was exciting as we met new people and had the opportunity to compete with other schools. It was enjoyable to perform in front of such a good crowd.’

(Year 7)

We still have some places available to join our Theatresports team held on Tuesdays 3.20pm-4.50pm.

Theatresports is for all levels of experience. If you love to perform and want to flex your improvisational muscles or it’s your first time acting, come along and learn the skills to be a Master Improvisor.

Each term students work through the Theatresports handbook in addition to improvisational activities focused on increasing the girl’s confidence in performance and devising. Improvisation is such a fun way to strengthen their communication skills while exercising their imagination and storytelling abilities. There are performance opportunities such as Impro Australia’s Schools Theatresports challenge and Eisteddfods Most importantly we have fun and lots of laughs!
