Year 8

Year 8

It has been another busy week for Year 8, with Geography, Technology and Visual Arts assessment tasks being completed and submitted. While these were the last formal assessments for the 2024 academic year, please remind your daughter that she will continue to learn and consolidate her knowledge in her classes up until the end of Term 4. You might like to refer to last week’s newsletter article here by Linda Emms, Head of Learning and Teaching, to read more about this approach to learning and teaching at MLC School.

On Wednesday in Assembly, the Year 9 2025 Student Representative Council (SRC) representatives were announced. Congratulations to Year 8 students Yolanda Deng, Matilda Li, Jasmin Srisathkurunathan and Lucy Stoddard, who have been elected by their peers to represent the ‘voice’ and views of Year 9 in 2025!

In Luminary this week, Year 8 spent time reflecting on how they had grown in 2024. Students were asked to consider what they were proud of having achieved, across academic, co-curricular, personal and social domains. Looking forward to 2025, they also set some personal goals for Year 9. I would encourage you to discuss these goals with your daughter over the coming weeks, and importantly, find time to celebrate her personal growth and achievements this year.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Year 8 students who volunteered their time over Friday 25 and Saturday 26 October to assist with the running of the IGSA Festival of Speech at MLC School. It was a joy to watch Year 8 student volunteers complete each task that was given to them with enthusiasm and professionalism, whether it was assisting with bags, time keeping, touring visitors, guarding doors or announcing the order of competitors in a competition.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me or your daughter’s Luminary teacher if you need any assistance.
