Year 12 IB Chinese Adventure into Chinatown
On Tuesday, our Year 12 IB Chinese class embarked on an adventure to Sydney City’s Chinatown, stopping by ‘The Eight’ to have Yum cha. Yum cha is the Chinese tradition of enjoying tea and dim sum in a buzzing and social setting where fried delicacies and steamed dishes are served in small portions.
We were encouraged to converse with the waiters and waitresses about ordering dishes in Chinese using the grammar structures and the conversational terms we learnt in class.
After enjoying our fulfilling meal, we ventured into the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Here we observed the popular traditional Chinese architecture, plants, animals and artworks. We were able to surround ourselves with Chinese culture and learn about their significance in tradition.
All together, we had a very adventurous day full of fun and cultural immersion.
