Duke of Edinburgh Award
Monday 23 September 2024 to Sunday 29 September 2024
MLC School presents a 7-day outback adventure, which satisfies aspects of both the Practice and Qualifying sections of the Adventurous Journey for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. For Gold students, the adventure will satisfy 20% of the requirements, for Silver students it will satisfy 25% of the components. This is an emotive journey into the heart of the Red Centre.
Students will walk through some of the Northern Territory’s most internationally renowned locations, including:
- Uluru (Ayers Rock)
- Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) – Valley of the Winds
- Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon)
- West MacDonnell Ranges, including Glen Helen Lodge and Ellery Creek Big Hole
- A sunrise walk to the top of Mount Sonder
Approximate Cost: $3,350 (Includes return airfares, accommodation and all meals)
Students will experience the desert first-hand; driving on dirt roads, avoiding the crowds and staying at remote private bush camps. They will sleep under the clearest Southern stars you can imagine while in a traditional swag or a permanent safari tent. Escorted by two professional Guides and traveling in a purpose- built four-wheel drive vehicle, this tour offers an authentic outback experience.

Year 9 were presented with a full information pack including forms, last week. Please contact me should you have any questions about the Program by email here.
(Please note: There is an option to undertake a further two-day camp within the same week. If your daughter is participating in the Cadet Program OR the Duke of Ed Program, they can count this camp as an Award camp, effectively completing 25% of the Award in one trip. However, they will need to register and commence the Award before undertaking the camp, this cannot be backdated).
