Year 10

Year 10

Year 10 students have done a great job of transitioning to their new academic year, and I am pleased that there is a long break approaching. I have enjoyed getting to know many of them these last four weeks and discovering their many talents and the compassion that they exhibit to one another.

Today was MLC School Idol, a big item in our school term that connects the community together and provides us with joy. It also reminds us all of the impending holidays and the fun times we have ahead of us.

Holiday planning

As the school holidays are quickly approaching, this is a great time to begin conversations regarding any expectations your family may have about going out and technology use. The age of our students in Year 10 will naturally mean that many will be requesting to either do activities they haven’t before or will want to push boundaries. Connecting with their friends and family over the break is strongly encouraged but it would be great to keep everyone safe too. Open conversations and agreement on what is acceptable for your family is recommended. For additional ideas during the holidays and supporting your young person, Headspace have produced some suggestions.

Absences

Attendance monitoring is an important activity for a school as regular attendance is essential to support every student’s learning and wellbeing. Absences from school may pose a potential risk to a student’s safety and highlight that there may be a more significant underlying issue.

Please support us at school by regularly texting or emailing the Studies Office when your daughter is absent, late or leaving early. As per the Parent Portal guidelines on attendance. Students cannot sign out themselves when unwell and must do this via the Health Centre. If students have unexplained lateness or absence, they do run the risk of being disciplined for this, regular communication with our Studies Office will save any misunderstandings.

Speech Night

Speech Night is a compulsory event, please request permission from Head of Senior School, Joanna Graffen if your daughter cannot attend as leave needs to be approved. As the students are now in Senior Years (Year 10 to Year 12), students are to wear the formal School uniform of:

  • Short-sleeved shirt and senior skirt, with sheer black stockings and blazers
  • It would be appreciated if uniforms were clean and pressed with shoes freshly polished, with hair tied back with a navy or MLC School tri-coloured ribbon or with a black or navy elastic
  • No makeup or jewellery, other than a watch and small silver, or gold studs or sleepers are to be worn
  • No false eyelashes or nails
