Year 8
It’s hard to believe that as we move to the end of our time in Year 8, we would still be having some many firsts. Two weeks ago saw our first Year group Chapel, and this week saw our first Year group excursion since we arrived back from Year 7 camp. To say the girls were excited was an understatement and mother nature provided them with beautiful weather to set the scene. It was an amazing day as the girls were fully involved in all aspects of the trip to Cockatoo Island. They immersed themselves in the artistic themes and their drawing and sketches proved this.
‘On Wednesday 9 June 2021 Year 8 went on an excursion with the art teachers to Cockatoo Island. We started out by catching buses into Circular Quay and getting on a ferry to the island. We then looked around and took photos and drew many of the interesting constructions on the island. After about two hours we got on the ferry and went back to Circular Quay and drew many buildings surrounding the MCA. It was a great experience which we very much enjoyed. Thank you to everyone involved it the making up of the day!’ – Tiana Robinson (Year 8)
Year 8 also had the opportunity to learn about open shutter photography in the evening with a special presentation from .Peter Solness
‘Yesterday was actually more fun than I thought it would be. I thought it was going to be more watching things than actually making photos. When we went into the basement and took open shutter frames they were the best fun… [it was an amazing thing to] have tried. When we went outside to the hockey fields we got some hoola hoops and balls connected to ropes and we created things with batons. All of these lit up and you could change the colours as if it was strobe. Overall 10/10 experience!’ – Anastazia Samad (Year 8)
‘Yesterday’s excursion was more than just an excursion, it was a new experience. We discovered how to take the perfect photographs and draw eye catching images. It was great to bond with new people and overall was a heap of fun.’ – Lana Rafsanjani (Year 8)
‘It was such a fun experience! Everyone really got a chance to work independently and with friends. Cockatoo Island was really full of history, and there was so much to explore and see!’ – Sarah Pickett (Year 8)
A big thank you to the Art Department for arranging such an amazing experiences.
Thank you everyone and I hope you have a fantastic long weekend.
