From the Head of Junior School

It has been a delight to have our parents and carers with us this week sharing and celebrating of learning through the Junior School. It has been all smiles across the girls faces as they proudly displayed their achievements at school to their parents and grandparents. Both Pre-K and Year 4 hosted Celebrations of Learning whilst Year 3 lead the Junior School Assembly.

My thanks to the parents who have been running our second hand uniform sale on the Red Carpet and to those families who also donated uniforms. All proceeds go towards the girls’ education.

During our assembly the girls thanked and farewelled our loved art teacher Jane Lancaster. Ms Lancaster leaves MLC School after many dedicated years of service, bringing a love, understanding, and appreciation of visual arts to so many girls. This year Ms Lancaster taught art to every girl on the Junior School campus. We wish her well in her new position at the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). We welcome back Lesley Snelgrove to our Art department who will work alongside Victoria Bradshaw with the support of our art assistance Liane Simpson.

I look forward to seeing many parents at our Kindergarten to Year 5 Athletics Carnival next Thursday at Sydney Olympic Park. Please click here for more details.

Help our Principal to Help Others

Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This year, our Principal Lisa Moloney is taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Australians in need. On the night of Thursday 17 June 2021, she’ll be sleeping outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness.

To support Ms Moloney’s efforts and to help to build understanding about the impact of homelessness, the MLC Junior School will be having a hoodies and beanies mufti day on the last day of term. Students should wear their warmest clothes to remind them how lucky they are to have a home and all its comforts. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation on the day. Funds raised will be donated to Ms Moloney’s fundraising efforts.

If you wish to personally support Ms Moloney’s participation in the sleepout, please donate at https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/lisamoloney/new-south-wales.
