During May this\u00a0year, 20 students from Year 7 to Year 10 participated in the Big Science Competition with some outstanding achievements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High Distinctions \u2013 <strong>Chloe Zhang<\/strong> (Year 9), <strong>Ruby Mitchell<\/strong> (Year 10), <strong>Moira Peach<\/strong> (Year 10), <strong>Zara Poortvliet<\/strong> (Year 10)<\/li>\n<li>Distinction Certificates \u2013 <strong>Cara Britton<\/strong> (Year 10), <strong>Emily Edwards<\/strong> (Year 10), <strong>Meera Rawal<\/strong> (Year 11)<\/li>\n<li>Credit Awards \u2013 <strong>Madhavi Chauhan<\/strong> (Year 11), <strong>Elizabeth Wilkie<\/strong> (Year 11), <strong>Olivia Sun-Ryan<\/strong> (Year 8), <strong>Amy Lee<\/strong> (Year 9), <strong>Lily Hatton<\/strong> (Year 10), <strong>Pieta McMilllan<\/strong> (Year 10)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0Australian Science Olympiads are a national enrichment program\u00a0for\u00a0secondary science students.\u00a0The\u00a0Australian Science Olympiads provide rewarding opportunities\u00a0for\u00a0students to extend\u00a0themselves way beyond school science through challenging exams, stimulating extensions and enrichment programs and international competitions.<\/p>\n<p>In July this year 14 students from Year 7 to Year 12 sat the Australian Science Olympiads for Physics Chemistry Biology and Junior Science. Some of these students will go on to compete in international competitions. As a group they were awarded the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High Distinctions \u2013 <strong>Christie Ch\u2019ng<\/strong> (Year 12, 2021) for Biology and Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Distinctions \u2013 <strong>Wisteria Hu<\/strong> (Year 12) for Chemistry, <strong>Christyn Cordato<\/strong> (Year 12) for Physics, <strong>Elizabeth Wilkie<\/strong> (Year 11) for Junior Science, <strong>Selena Read <\/strong>(Year 11) for Junior Science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following students received Credit awards in the Junior Science Olympiads:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lily Hatton<\/strong> (Year 10)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Harriet Campbell<\/strong> (Year 11)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Zara Poortvliet<\/strong> (Year 10)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eve Banyer<\/strong> (Year 9)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cara Britton<\/strong> (Year 10)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following girls received Credit awards for the Chemistry Olympiad:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kerry Fu<\/strong> (Year 12)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Christyn Cordato<\/strong> (Year 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have also started a STEM Club in Science during Term 4, called Girls for Science (pro scientiae). We have 18 girls from Year 7 to Year 11. We have started by using an online light generator to look at light and colour and build a digital production to music. Student will soon be creating holiday lights using biology and phosphorescent bacteria, chemical reactions that create fluorescent lights and assembling and coding LED lights using physics principles.
