From the Principal

Our Mission states that we strive to educate and inspire our graduates to ‘be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others’ and there is no doubt that we are successful in doing so; the Old Girls of MLC School help to make the world a better place across a wide range of endeavours and many continents.

Two of our remarkable Alumnae were acknowledged in the 2024 Australia Day awards. Our congratulations to:

Bronwyn Brown (Henry, 1964) was awarded an OAM ‘For service to the community through music’ and Professor Elizabeth New (2000) was awarded an OAM ‘For service to science as a researcher in chemical biology and molecular imaging’.

A student at MLC School for her high school years, Bronwyn was a Senior Prefect in her final year. She went on to complete a BSc at the University of Sydney and then commenced a distinguished career in teaching mathematics and music.

Bronwyn excelled in both fields; she was the Head of Mathematics and an Accompanist at both Roseville College and St Aidan’s Anglican College, Brisbane, and at Canberra Girls Grammar School she was the Organ Teacher.

At Radford College, Canberra, where she has been a long serving staff member, Bronwyn is an Accompanist, the Director of Keyboard and is involved in Performing Arts Administration.

Professor New’s commitment to excellence and mentorship has inspired countless young scientists. As a dedicated educator and mentor, she has cultivated a nurturing environment where intellectual curiosity thrives, instilling in her students the values of rigorous inquiry, innovation, and perseverance.

Beyond her scientific research and exemplary teaching, Professor New is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion within the scientific community. Through her advocacy and mentorship initiatives, she has worked tirelessly to dismantle barriers and create pathways of opportunity for underrepresented groups, ensuring that the scientific community reflects the humanity it serves.

MLC School recognises and celebrates the women who, like Bronwyn and Elizabeth are prepared to think differently; have courage and conviction; and lead with passion, through the MLC School Alumnae Awards and I am keen to see the list of extraordinary women who will receive their awards on 3 May at the Alumnae Awards and Back to College Dinner.

Celebrating The Contribution of our Long Serving Teachers and School Staff

With years of dedicated service, our long-serving staff members have become an integral part of MLC School, embodying a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and loyalty. They have worked across several years of cohorts and our ever-changing environment, therefore becoming the most valued parts of our school community.

At this years Celebration of Service Dinner (which is held every five years) a total of 115 long serving staff were acknowledged for their commitment and contribution to MLC School.

A special mention is due to the 12 staff who have been with us for over 20 years and therefore received their 20-year pin. These faces may be familiar to most readers.

  • Trinh Nguyen (29 years)
  • Lynne Bondar (28 years)
  • Helen Kondos (27 years)
  • Antonella Accurso (26 years
  • Carla Comitogianni (26 years)
  • Lynne Slarke (25 years)
  • Annie Conway (24 years)
  • Manuel Condoleon (22 years)
  • Robyn Langford (22 years)
  • Kestie Neligan (22 years)
  • Bryce Lindstrom (21 years)
  • Vicky Zinopoulos (20 years)

They have not only contributed their time, energy and expertise but have also navigated and adapted to remarkable change during their time at MLC School. In some cases, they now teach the children of students that they taught in their early years at the School!
