Festival of Speech 2022

Festival of Speech 2022

A team of 25 MLC School students participated in the Independent Girls Schools Association (IGSA) Festival of Speech, held this year at Pymble Ladies College. This was a live event after two years of holding an online festival and energy levels were high to be able to interact with students from 27 other girls’ schools in person.  Over the two days MLC School’s students performed in 10 different sections including debating, drama, readings, poetry, public speaking and team events. This is a tough competition with 25 other students from each school in most sections. It is extremely difficult to achieve a top 5 place is an achievement let alone win your event.

Our Junior team (Year 7 to Year 9) were unstoppable and won the whole Junior division overall with MLC School first out of 27 schools.

  • Junior Readings 1st Place – Anna (Year 8)
  • Junior Poetry 1st Place – Nitya (Year 9)
  • Junior Public Speaking 1st Place – Harriet (Year 8)

Our Senior students (Year 10 and Year 11) were equally impressive against some high-quality competition.

  • Senior Poetry 3rd Place – Dalia (Year 11)
  • Current Affairs 2nd Place – Selena (Year 11), Sylie (Year 11), Isabel (Year 11)
  • Religious & Ethical Questions 5th Place – Elizabeth (Year 11), Chloe (Year 11), Alannah (Year 11)

In the overall tally MLC School came in a very close 3rd place, our best result in the Festival of Speech for many years. Thank you to our dedicated coaches who trained our teams and came along to support them at the festival. Special thanks to our Principal Lisa Moloney who was at the Festival all Saturday and tirelessly attended events, supported students, and celebrated our successes.
