Year 1 Explore Lane Cove National Park<\/strong><\/p>\n Year 1 ventured into Lane Cove National Park, building shelters for lizards, mapping the bushland, and creating collaborative artworks inspired by nature, an experience that fostered teamwork and environmental awareness.<\/p>\n My favourite thing was playing the team games at the end. I loved the chicken and duck game! I loved when we walked along the river. We found a cockatoo hiding in the branches! Something I learned was that you can build a shelter out of sticks! \u2013 Bernadette Weston<\/em><\/strong> Click on image gallery for full size images.<\/em><\/p>\n Celebrations, Commemorations and Culture Learning for Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n Year 3 explored Sydney\u2019s cultural diversity through their Celebrations and Commemorations project, walking through Chinatown and the Chinese Garden of Friendship. They learned how different communities honour heritage and tradition, and expressed their creativity by crafting vibrant Chinese dragons.<\/p>\n Click on image gallery for full size images.<\/em><\/p>\n Year 8 Immersion to Mudgee<\/strong><\/p>\n In the Senior School, Year 8 students deepened their understanding of Indigenous culture during their Immersion to Mudgee. Through Dreaming stories, traditional ceremonies and reflective learning, they gained new perspectives and a greater appreciation for Aboriginal heritage and resilience.<\/p>\n The students were also asked to reflect on how the Immersion program had impacted their understanding of Indigenous culture. Here are some of their responses:<\/p>\n \u2018The Immersion program was able to help me understand more of the Indigenous culture like the ceremonies that happened and how the Dreaming stories relate to everyday life.\u2019 \u2018It let me see everything from a new perspective and help understand the belief and culture of Aboriginal people better, seeing how they do things and watching their dances and listening to their Dreaming stories really let me understand how their view on the world is so different from Western civilisation.\u2019 \u2018I gained a very deep understanding of the prejudices that Aboriginal people have faced and also opened me up to a wide variety of ceremonies that were enjoyable and made me feel a sense of belonging.\u2019 \u2018I learnt more about their culture and the way their societies worked, and how they still work now after the profound effect of colonisation.
