Each year, the International Day of Mathematics sits on 14 March. In celebration of this year\u2019s theme \u201cMathematics for Everyone\u201d, Year 7 and Year 8 students participated in some activities, involving creativity and problem solving. Students produced some creative mathematical comic strips, where only drawings and numbers were allowed and told a story where people worldwide could understand. Classes also designed posters with their faces on them to illustrate the diverse people who can experience mathematics through exploration, play, research, learning, problem solving and curiosity. Year 8 classes also participated in a Scavenger Hunt around the Senior Centre, where problems involving history of mathematics, volumes, areas, and tessellation were explored.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, a huge congratulations must be given to\u00a0Nitya <\/strong>(Year 10). Based on her excellent performance in the Australian Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) and Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), she was selected to participate in the Mathematical Problem Solving Correspondence Program (MaPS), run by the University of Sydney. This program was developed to help talented students develop their problem-solving skills and prepare them for further mathematics competitions.
