Year 6 Excitement Day

Year 6 Excitement Day

In August, our current Year 6 students participated in the Senior School for Excitement Day. Of course, our Year 6 students are on the Senior School campus and experience many of the activities associated with our Senior School life, such as assemblies, Chapel, House events, clubs and committees, and lunchtime events. Our annual Excitement Day is a chance for our current Year 6 students to experience classes in the Senior School and to get to know some of the teachers and key learning areas in the school.

This year, the students completed an experiment about Ph rainbows in a Science laboratory with our wonderful Head of Science, Maryellen Ottaway, they ran around on the hockey field for a PDHPE lesson with our Acting Principal Melissa Boyd, they baked ANZAC biscuits in our brand new commercial kitchen with our Acting Deputy Principal Linda Emms, and they explored Geography, Global Studies and Psychology with me, with some of the students bravely trying sustainable superfood insects; crickets and mealworms!

The students had a chance to share their eagerness for the opportunities of Senior School and to share and discuss their questions and worries too. There was much discussion about moving around the campus, meeting new students and teachers, making new friends, and of course homework and assessment tasks! We also very much enjoyed getting to know many of our Year 6 parents at the end of the day. It was a wonderful start to our transition program.
