Our primary focus has been on strengthening students\u2019 ability to unpack and respond to challenging exam questions. By embedding this structured approach into our lessons, we are fostering metacognitive awareness &#8211; equipping all learners with the confidence and precision needed to synthesise complex syllabus concepts and achieve success in advanced problem-solving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Students at all levels have thrown themselves into their work with outstanding dedication. Here is a snapshot of what our cohorts and co-curricular programs have achieved this term:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;font-size: 14pt\">Senior School Milestones<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Year 12:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Our senior mathematicians have now completed three tasks, representing 70% of their school-based assessment.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To ensure they are fully prepared for &#8216;the real thing&#8217; in Term 3, all students will have the opportunity to sit a mock trial exam during the upcoming holidays. Furthermore, they can fine-tune their skills by participating in holiday workshops run by MCE, SCS, and MANSW.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Year 11:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The cohort has successfully navigated their first two assessment tasks while deeply engaging with the new syllabus.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Year 10:<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"> Are preparing for Stage 6 with their subject selections. Having also completed two assessment tasks, Year 10 students are preparing for their practice Minimum Standards Test. Meeting the Minimum Standard in Numeracy is a crucial requirement for the awarding of the HS<\/span>C.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;font-size: 14pt\">Extending Our Brightest Minds<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Many of our top mathematicians have been flexing their skills in prestigious external competitions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Stage 4 Newman Students:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Our gifted mathematicians have received their <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maths Challenge<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> results.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Years 7 &amp; 8:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Students stepped up to the challenge of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">APS Mathematics Olympiad<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Comprising four separate contests starting in early Term 2, this program is designed to consolidate problem-solving strategies, foster creativity and ingenuity and stimulate a genuine enthusiasm for mathematics.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">99 students from Years 7-11 have signed up to compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition, conducted by the Australian Mathematics Trust, joining with approximately 600,000 students across Australia and the South Pacific.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-6081 gallery-columns-2 gallery-size-medium'>\n<figure class='gallery-item'>\n<div class='gallery-icon'>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/06\/IMG_7427-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightcase:1:slideshow\" title=\"\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/06\/IMG_7427-1-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/a><\/div>\n<div class='gallery-item__overlay d-flex justify-content-center align-items-center'><span class='fal fa-plus fa-2x'><\/span><\/div><\/figure>\n<figure class='gallery-item'>\n<div class='gallery-icon'>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/06\/IMG_7426-1-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightcase:1:slideshow\" title=\"\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/06\/IMG_7426-1-1-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/a><\/div>\n<div class='gallery-item__overlay d-flex justify-content-center align-items-center'><span class='fal fa-plus fa-2x'><\/span><\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;font-size: 14pt\">Beyond the Classroom: Clubs and Enrichment<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Maths Homework Club:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> A huge thank you to Ms Le for running the Maths Homework Club every Tuesday afternoon from 3:00\u20134:00pm in the Learning Centre. Open to Years 7\u201310 students, this initiative continues to be an invaluable resource for homework support and exam preparation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Marist Mathletes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Mathletes continues to thrive on Monday afternoons. Students have been exploring advanced, university-level topics, such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Modular Arithmetic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cryptography and Game theory, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to prepare for elite competitions. A special thank you to volunteer teacher Dr Scott for her invaluable assistance and expertise with this program.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Congratulations to all students on a fantastic term of mathematical growth.
