With the characteristics of Presence and Family Spirit being vital elements of the Marist Charism, it is appropriate that we seek out ways to minister to those on the margins. We do this as a reminder of the dignity of every person we meet.

Vinnies Vans are outreach services that provide meals and snacks, blankets, toiletries, hot beverages and most importantly, companionship to people experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. The Vans operate across Greater Sydney and in targeted regional areas. We will be engaging with the Ryde Area service. Vinnies Van is an amazing experience to meet people who may be in different circumstances than our own, where they are at. The Ryde Vinnies Van service visits two fixed sites within the Ryde District and meets people in these locations. Many people find Vinnies Van a very rewarding and challenging experience.

There may be times where some people might feel uncomfortable with scenarios that we may come across including possibly seeing people affected by drugs or alcohol or may have a mental illness. Training is provided for all volunteers of Vinnies Van before they go out on the service. The chance to talk about anything that is confronting to any of our volunteers is also made available. Students will only go out for a shift when there are 2 trained teachers available.

General details of the Vinnies Sydney Vinnies Van service:

Dates/Times: 6.00pm-8:15pm on a rostered night
Meeting Venue: West Ryde Vinnies Retail Shop, 47-49 Ryedale Rd, West Ryde 2114

Volunteers: 3-5 students and 2 teachers per shift

Over the next week we will be speaking with Year 11 and 12 homerooms to inform students of this opportunity to serve others. Following this we will provide an opportunity for students to express their interest in volunteering. Please take the time to discuss this opportunity for service with your son. Once students express interest we will develop a roster for volunteering so that it fits as best as possible around other commitments. Once a commitment is made every effort (unless severe illness) should be made to meet this as failure to attend will mean the most vulnerable are impacted.

Could you please ensure your son joins the Google Classroom for scheduling, rosters and updates: 37nkvqgk

Please feel free to contact Mr Joshua Formosa at the College if you have any further questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Mr Colm McCaughan Mr Joshua Formosa

Religious Education Coordinator St Vincent de Paul Coordinator

["post-5083","article","type-article","status-publish","hentry
["GET
