October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

24 October 2025

Dear Parents/Carers

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month:

What is Dyslexia?

AUSPELD, as well as the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) describe Dyslexia as:

“… a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterised by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.

If you would like to know more about this condition some useful information can be found at:

Year 11 – Year 12 2026 HSC Assessment Block

24 October 2025

Dear Year 12 2026 Parents/Carers

Year 12 HSC Assessment Information

As our Year 12 2026 students begin their HSC journey in Term 4, they enter a pivotal stage of their secondary education. The commencement of formal HSC assessments marks the beginning of their final year of study, where consistent effort, self-discipline, and academic integrity will be key to success. This period provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growing independence and commitment to achieving their personal goals.

The HSC 2026 Assessment Handbook can be accessed via Compass by clicking on Community School Documentation Student Information Assessment Handbooks Year 12 Assessment Handbook 2026. This document outlines the College’s assessment policies and procedures, assessment task grids and weightings, and it is essential that students and parents review it carefully. Understanding these guidelines will assist in ensuring a smooth and transparent assessment process throughout the year.

All Year 12 assessment dates for Term 4 have been added to the Compass calendar to help students plan their time effectively. We strongly encourage students to manage their study schedules around these dates, allowing for balanced preparation across subjects and minimising unnecessary stress during busy assessment periods.

Attached to this communication is the Assessment Task Block Timetable for Week 8, which will run from Wednesday 3 December to Friday 5 December. During this period, students are only required to be on campus for their scheduled assessments. Regular classes will not run during the block, allowing students time to focus on revision and rest between tasks.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your son’s learning as he commences this significant phase of his HSC studies.

Kind regards

Ms Monique Brame

Director of Curriculum and NESA Accreditation

Reminder – Year 12 2026 Privileges

17 October 2025

Dear Parents/Carers

Year 12 2026 Privileges

Year 12 will be provided additional privileges from Monday of Term 4, Week 3 2025 and will carry over into 2026. One such privilege will be access to Eastwood Shops during recess and lunchtime.  Please provide permission for your son to have access to the shops by completing the following google form.

Each student will need to place their Compass Card in the provided homeroom draw that will be located outside Eastwood House prior to moving to the shops at the beginning of recess or lunch.  It is vital that all students return within an appropriate timeframe to commence periods 3 and 5 as scheduled.

It is expected that at all times student behaviour is aligned to our College rules and expectations. Any student who is not in full uniform or does not act in accordance with high standards for senior students will lose this privilege at the discretion of the College.

Kind regards

Ms Linda Burland

Leader of Wellbeing – Year 11
