E-Bike Management Guidelines

25 September 2026

Dear Parents/Carers

Marist College Eastwood in conjunction with the SCS E-Bike Management Guidelines has determined that e-bikes cannot be safely accommodated on school premises. The school has determined that we are unable to manage the associated risks at the present time and cannot provide a designated storage area that meets the storage requirements. As a result, students are not able to bring e-bikes onto or store them on school premises. The current position may be adjusted in future if a suitable storage arrangement can be sourced or made available.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Principal

Sport Report

Goalball Championships

Marist Eastwood sent two goal ball teams to the Sydney Championships on Friday 18 September at the Olympic Park Sports Halls. Goalball is a sport designed for vision impaired athletes. In this sport players wear blackout goggles to ensure no one can see and use a bell ball to attempt to score and save goals. Marist Eastwood had a great day and the boys learned plenty along the way.

Congratulations to our Senior team of Lachlan Cook, Benny Lopes-Khachaturian and Lawrence Mazzei who finished 3rd overall.

Terrey Shaw Chess Competition

Six students in two teams represented the College on Sunday 20 September in Ashfield in the prestigious Terrey Shaw Chess Competition. Alvis Gan, Max Reichel and Tae Sung Ha made up the A team and Ammaar Parpia, Daniel Spittle and Leonardo Costello comprised the B team. These boys played against many of the selective and private schools across the state, including North Sydney Boys, James Ruse, Sydney Boys and Knox Grammar. Both teams did exceptionally well. The B team started slowly but built into the day finishing on 12 points (out of 21) – Daniel Spittle on board 2 winning 5.5 out of 7 was an amazing effort (A Parpia 4/7 and L Costello 2.5/7).

The A team also had a slow start but then got on a real roll to be 2nd moving into the final round. Unfortunately against eventual run away Champions Knox, the boys went down 3-0 and would finish 11th overall (13/21). An amazing achievement when you consider the schools they played against on the day. Alvis Gan led from the front on board 1 winning 6/7, our youngest competitor Max Reichel on board 2 contributing 4/7 and Tae Sung Ha finished the day with 3/7. A fine effort from all the students.

Career Spotlight & Practical Tips

Job Spotlight: Horticulturist

If you love working outdoors, solving practical problems and working with your hands, horticulture offers a clear, tangible career pathway.

  • What they do: Cultivate green spaces, manage soils, plant species and work alongside landscape architects on urban greening, public parks, or ecological restoration.
  • How to get there: Certificate III or Diploma in Horticulture (often through an apprenticeship/traineeship) or a university degree in agricultural science/horticulture.
  • What you can do right now: Try working at a local nursery or botanic garden, build up plant knowledge at home and select Biology or Design & Technology at school.

📖 Study Tip: Master Your Reading with SQ3R

Feeling overwhelmed by textbook chapters or long reading tasks? Try the SQ3R method to make your reading far more effective:

  1. Survey: Spend 5 minutes scanning headings, images and summaries to get the big picture.
  2. Question: Turn section headings into questions (e.g., turning “Causes of Erosion” into “What causes erosion?”).
  3. Read: Read actively to find the answers to your questions.
  4. Recite: Close the book and explain the concept out loud in your own words.
  5. Review: Revisit your questions and answers within 24 hours to lock the information into your long-term memory.

Wishing all our Marist families a restful, safe and rejuvenating two-week holiday break!
