Job Spotlight: How to Become a Radiographer

Is your child drawn to healthcare, technology and absolute precision? A career as a radiographer might be the perfect fit.

  • What they do: Radiographers use advanced technology like X-rays, MRIs and CT scanners to take high-quality images of the inside of the human body, helping doctors diagnose and treat illnesses.
  • The Lifestyle: Hospital roles involve shift work (including evenings and weekends), while private clinics offer more predictable hours. It’s an active, indoor job where you are constantly on your feet interacting with patients.
  • How to prepare: If your child is in Year 10 or 11, focusing on senior biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics is essential preparation for university-level medical imaging degrees.

Free Ways to Build Career Confidence Right Now

Students don’t need a formal job or expensive courses to start looking great to future employers. They can practice these high-demand skills from the comfort of home:

  • Get comfortable with AI tools: Use tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini to help plan a project or brainstorm ideas. Employers value people who know how to use these tools responsibly while still fact-checking the results.
  • Sharpen keyboard skills: Fast, accurate typing is a massive time-saver at uni and work. Free sites like TypingClub or Keybr can make a massive difference with just 15 minutes of practice a day.
  • Master time management: Encourage your child to use free tools like Google Calendar or Todoist to map out their study schedules and assignment due dates.

If you have any questions about university preferences, early entry applications, or pathways, please feel free to reach out to the Careers Office at the College.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Kind regards
